Washington Federal - Cloud Engineer - Senior

Job Summary: We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer that will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect scalable and secure cloud solutions, optimize system performance, and drive continuous improvement. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical background in cloud technologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality solutions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, deploy, and manage cloud-based infrastructure and services, ensuring scalability, availability, and security.
- Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to architect and implement efficient and reliable cloud solutions.
- Optimize cloud resource utilization, monitor system performance, and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Implement automation and infrastructure-as-code practices to streamline deployments, provisioning, and configuration management.
- Evaluate and recommend cloud services, tools, and technologies to improve efficiency and enhance system capabilities.
- Work with the audit and compliance team to ensure SOX compliance.
- Assist the security team with developing and enforcing cloud security best practices, including access controls, encryption, and vulnerability management.
- Provide technical guidance to WaFd information technology colleagues.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in cloud computing.
Adherence to bank policies and procedures designed to comply with Federal regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act and OFAC regulations.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills/Training:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
- HashiCorp Certified Terraform Associate
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment and decision making.
- Strong documentation skills and ability to work in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to assist internal and external customers in a personable and professional manner.
Experience:
- 4-5 years of experience as a Cloud Engineer or in a similar role.
- 4-5 years of experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- In-depth knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS.
- Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
- Strong understanding of networking principles, security best practices, and data management in cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles including serverless computing, SaaS implementation and best practices for building scalable and resilient cloud applications.
- Experience with cloud security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, SOX compliance and network security.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools for cloud-based infrastructure such as Splunk.
