Position Summary: JMT's Washington, D.C. office is looking for a Water Resources Project Engineer to be responsible for roadway drainage engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers. U.S. Residency Required.
Compensation is $40-60/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
- Perform roadway drainage design computations.
- Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.
- Develop construction cost estimates.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction.
- Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines.
- Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
- Attend meetings with clients.
- Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Proficient in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Written and communication skills.
- Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design software preferred.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program.
- 4-10 years of experience in Water Resources or related engineering discipline.
- Hydrologic Modeling experience using TR55 / TR20 and Rational Method.
- Storm drain design, stormwater management design, and erosion and sediment control design experience.
Preferred Experience
- Professional Engineer License.
- Water resource engineering design in District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia.
- Proficiency in discipline-specific design software, including TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, FlowMaster, and/or HEC-RAS preferred.
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
