Big-D Heavy Industrial has an opportunity for a Project Controls Engineer to join our team or professionals. This position will be headquartered in Tempe AZ but must be willing to travel.
As our Project Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for cost management, scheduling, risk management, development and implementation of a progress measurement process, the preparation of recommendations to decision makers, internal/external reporting and conducting any other project controls activities necessary to streamline results on our technical programs, business development and operations. This individual plays an important role in collecting and analyzing data with the objective of maximizing value and identifying benefits through the promotion of a joint collaborative approach.
Experience/Training:

  • 7+ years of direct experience in project controls role of industrial construction operations.
Critical Skills:
  • Degree in engineering, project management, business administration, finance and/or aptitude; or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • 7+ years of direct experience in project controls function in the field of engineering and construction.
  • Understand different types of contracts and how project controls handles them accordingly.
  • Advanced knowledge in project controls fundamentals such as WBS, RoC, earned value management and PF.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office, PDF-editing and Primavera P6
  • Ability to generate schedules for multiple small projects and manage them with minimal supervision when working across departments, disciplines and functions.
  • Experience with or the ability to learn Procore project management systems.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in high pressure, deadline driven environment; outstanding time management and prioritization
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Proactive and solution oriented.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional judgment, discretion, and professional courtesy.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations: (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)
  • Communicates with cross functional teams, including management, regularly regarding the status of projects and operations.
  • Collaborate with estimating to help baseline future projects for viability assessment, to analyze change requests in project costs for reasonableness, and to assist in requests for proposal
  • Evaluates spending on technical programs and operations while seeking ways to improve and enhance the execution of work.
  • Forecasts future spending in order to advise on where program costs may land.
  • Drives schedule updates and reviews with cross-functional teams.
  • Compiles and analyzes data to support bid leveling and price analysis, as well as collaborating with estimating and reviewing proposals to establish price objectives.
  • Stays up to date on industry trends and new products.
  • Monitors and update relevant departments regarding price fluctuations of goods and vendor pricing.
  • Develops and maintains risk registers for projects across the team’s portfolio.
  • Leads change management and coordinates with other disciplines to recognize and capture change orders timely and effectively.
  • Reports regularly on cost, change, schedule and risk metrics to the broader team and executives.
  • Grows the Project Controls team as needed but considers themselves individual contributor.
  • Attends meetings with the engineering team, construction team, operations team, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Assists with invoicing review and approval.
