Java Microservices Developer

A senior level software engineer with capabilities in core Java technologies, SQL, and Agile methodology in a multi-threaded environment.

What you will be responsible for:

1. Drive technical excellence by working independently to analyze, design, develop, test, and debug large and complex software enhancements and solutions within Charles River’s business and technical problem domains including modifications to core frameworks and other primary facilities critical to system operation.
2. Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Managers to create simple and sustainable software solutions for complex problems.
3. Provide thought leadership in the design of product architecture within and beyond the team’s scope of responsibility.
4. Direct problem solving for projects or major phases of projects to resolve advanced software technical issues.
5. Develop, test, debug, and implement software programs, applications, and projects using Java, C#, SQL, or other related software engineering languages as well as keeping abreast of emerging technologies impactful to our business.
6. Provide informed guidance and critical analysis of proposed changes during code reviews.
7. Write unit and automation tests to ensure a high quality end product.
8. Identify ways of improving development test methodologies and contribute to related test methodology frameworks.
9. Conduct manual tests to ensure a high quality end product.
10. Provide expert level troubleshooting on large, mission critical client implementations.
11. Actively assist team leaders in the agile software development process by adhering to and advancing our scrum methodology, including attending all daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
12. Plan and coordinate cross-team activities to complete assignments.
13. Advise senior management on technical strategy.
14. Provide mentoring to junior and senior staff.

Preferred qualifications and education:

1. B.S. degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics or other technical course of study required. MS degree strongly preferred.
2. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional software engineering experience.
3. At least 6 years of experience in core and enterprise Java, including collections API, concurrency, JDBC, and web services.
4. Extensive experience developing complex and high performing SQL code in Oracle and SQL-Server databases.
5. Knowledge of C# is a plus.
6. Experience in SpringBoot, Microservices, and cloud technologies preferred.
7. Good understanding of data structures and algorithms.
8. Good understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, software development best practices, and ability to write clean and maintainable code.
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
10. Prior experience troubleshooting and fixing database and application performance issues is preferred.
11. Demonstrated ability to apply design patterns to solve real problems is preferred.
12. Able to work well with peers in a collaborative team environment.
13. Prior experience with Agile development methodology is preferred.
