Title: Cloud Senior Engineer
Nature of Role: Rare opportunity to lead our cloud development efforts, focusing on backend tech stack on Google Cloud. We are building out our cloud presence for bioinformatics applications. These applications traditionally run on large in-house servers, and we are building out a web platform to make these applications available to our customer base. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our in-house bioinformatics application developers, as well as with contract developers, to produce highly scalable first-class applications for our customers.
This position reports to the senior director of software engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain our developer, staging, and production cloud environments
- Manage external resources, including external software contract teams
- Work closely with IT, enabling monitoring of cloud health and managing costs
- Be hands-on with all aspects of our backend development efforts, as well as integration of all cloud components and applications
- Provide software estimation of effort and timelines
- Design APIs for our applications to utilize cloud resources, including buckets, databases, email, containers
- Provide code reviews and mentoring for junior engineers
- Adhere to best practices for CI/CD and security around our applications and customer data
Requirements:
- Expert in Google Cloud features, including GKE, Gcloud, Kubectl, Kueue, Terraform, VPC, LoadBalancer, Artifact Registry, Buckets, SQL, email
- Must have played a major role in developing web-based applications, focusing on backend APIs and infrastructure
- Demonstrated ability to work with contract software development teams
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university
- 5+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively work in a team environment and build strong relationships
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment, execute under deadline pressures and with multiple priorities, and/or multiple complex situations daily
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment yet have the ability to be aggressive in execution and undaunted by challenges
