Job Summary

Join us in shaping the future of aviation! Objective Area Solutions (OAS) is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to enhance our software development team. As a member of our software development team, the candidate will work with large data, including ingest, parsing, and display to UI/UX to support the FAA's NAS Defense Programs, work directly with the program infrastructure teams, and engage in modernizing legacy software applications. Our ideal candidate will be proficient in providing ongoing life-cycle software engineering and analysis for systems while identifying service life extension needs for applications.

This role supports the Federal Aviation Administration, which is responsible for ensuring the safety of 45,000 flights and 3 million passengers traversing over 28 million miles of U.S. controlled airspace every day. In addition to providing air traffic control and safety oversight for civilian aviation, the FAA also works in lockstep with the Department of Defense and other government agencies to ensure the security of our nation.

Key Responsibilities

A successful candidate must have a minimum of 8 years of experience performing system and software engineering and be proficient in:

  1. Using analysis and critical thinking skills to determine and assess the user's needs and then create and maintain software or applications to meet the requirements.
  2. Performing market research, analysis, and technical advisory support to evaluate and make recommendations for the implementation of emerging technologies into the supported systems.
  3. Developing software and providing enhancements using Standards, Style and Guidelines (SSG) best practices, including iterative agile development methodology, to produce all software source code.
  4. Developing and managing software source code using configuration management tools (e.g., Subversion, Git, or other designated development platforms of similar functionality for future upgrades).
  5. Performing unit-level testing of software code components and address any software issues identified prior to release to the integration and test phase.
  6. Analyzing current and new requirements to determine the best approach and future system architecture design changes to accommodate emerging technologies and evolving stakeholder requirements.
  7. Performing engineering studies on emerging developments within the program and their impact to the supported systems.
  8. Creating transition plans for integrations, system and software updates, and replacements.
  9. Developing system documentation for Initial Security Authorizations in accordance with the client's Information Systems Security Program.
  10. Reviewing and maintaining the Information System Security Program in accordance with the applicable Security Orders as amended.
  11. Participating in risk and continuous monitoring assessments, contingency/disaster recovery planning and testing, and security testing and evaluation.
  12. Providing cost analyses for security risk mitigation.
  13. Updating security documents and annual security risk assessment documents in accordance with the Information Security and Privacy Program & Policy.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Engineering, Math, or Science.
  • Experience supporting the FAA or other US Government clients.
  • Active Secret Clearance (or able to obtain).
  • Experience viewing and editing geospatial data, Geoserver experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience and proficiency working with Linux, Redhat Enterprise, and CentOS.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Agile development or DevSecOps environments.
  • 3+ years of web development in Angular, CSS, JavaScript, WebGL powered maps.
