Vanderlande’s Engineering Department is responsible for the design, specification, and commissioning of Material Handling Systems, Warehouse Automation and Parcel Sortation systems for our customers throughout North America. In this position, you will be working with an engineering project team in the development of an automation or parcel sortation system. You will be responsible for ensuring the design meets the customer requirements, is coordinated with other trades to minimize conflicts during installation, can be installed with efficiency, and maintain excellent communication with the site team.

Job Overview:

  1. Execute projects from conception through client handover with a positive result based on technical performance, financial results, and the organization.
  2. Execute the system design from mechanical, hardware, integration of different components, system commissioning and testing through to final handover to the customer.
  3. Responsible for the system functionality and the technical quality of the material handling system.
  4. Develop engineering project plans and schedule of the project team and responsible for the progress.
  5. Coordinate activities of engineering project team in close cooperation with the Project Manager, including subcontractors when part of the engineering team.
  6. Work closely with clients and subcontractors and with other Project Leaders within Vanderlande.
  7. Document functional system specifications, interface specifications and (high level) test plans, including validation.
  8. Responsible for all information during the project, including complete project archiving.
  9. Create and/or oversee user manuals, documentation, training, and project evaluations.
  10. Report project progress and status to the Project Manager and Engineering Manager (Project Status Report including risks and opportunities).
  11. Monitor and control project budget.
  12. Understand, interpret, and follow procedures, standards, and regulations.
  13. Execute the health and safety analysis and be responsible for the safety coordination during the engineering phase.
  14. Work on quotation bids with the systems and sales department on new projects and/or on project changes.
  15. Communicate and work closely with other groups within Vanderlande and the project team (i.e., mechanical engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering, controls engineering, integration, project management, supply chain, sales/proposal department and installation).
  16. Identify, initiate, and implement improvement activities.
  17. Drive, support, promote, and improve standardization platforms.
  18. Advise the Engineering Manager of needed improvements for project execution and proposing technical solutions for complex and multidisciplinary problems.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in implementing and managing highly complex and medium-large scale material handling systems.
  3. Experience with integration and configuration management.
  4. Willing and able to travel up to 20%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience utilizing MS Project, Primavera, or other scheduling software.
  2. Knowledge of (mechanical) engineering theories and principles.
  3. Familiar with Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software (i.e. AutoCAD, REVIT, Navisworks).

  1. Technical knowledge/background in material handling processes.
  2. Proactive and hands-on work ethic.
  3. Self-motivated with proven ability in problem solving, especially in intense situations.
  4. Pragmatic and capable to balance quality, lead time, costs, and technology.
  5. Ability to lead a specialized team responsible for complex project(s).
