The Information Services Department is currently seeking a Server/Storage engineer to join our team in the New York office. The Server/Storage engineer will work on complex technical projects aligned with Firm requirements and responsible for the global design, implementation, support and management of server, storage and cloud technologies in a 24x7 business environment. This position reports to the Associate Director, Technology Engineering.
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
  • Architect / build / maintain robust cloud architectures for enterprise-scale applications, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security
  • Architect / build / maintain / upgrade physical and virtual server systems in all firm offices and datacenters
  • Architect / build / maintain / upgrade storage systems and infrastructure in all firm offices and datacenters
  • Assist in migration and transition from VMware 7.x to 8.x, ensuring minimal downtime and continuity of services
  • Assist in migration of on-premise workloads to the cloud
  • Assist in performing security assessments and remediations
  • Ensure that both Production and DR environments are fully replicated and operational in case of failure
  • Expeditiously resolve production server, storage, and cloud issues when services are not available
  • Monitor metrics around utilization and capacity and recommend changes as necessary
  • Provide documentation and train team members as well as other IS staff
  • Participate in on-call rotation and off-hours project work
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Associate Director, Technology Engineering

REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate possesses excellent interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor to interact successfully with lawyers and staff at all levels, and to work as a team with other members of the IS department. Must possess excellent written and oral communications skills with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve server and storage problems independently. Must be available to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
  • Minimum 7 years experience architecting and building high availability, high performance VMware server systems
  • Minimum 7 years experience architecting and building high availability, high performance storage systems
  • Minimum 7 years experience architecting and building Microsoft Windows servers and services
  • Minimum 7 years experience architecting and building high availability and scalable cloud infrastructure
  • Perform capacity planning, workload modeling, and prediction
  • Maintain and improve upon systems availability and reliability
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on new technology and take part in vendor selection
  • Understanding of security technologies, including vulnerability management solutions, privileged access, and general security background
  • Expert knowledge of SAN/NAS storage configuration and provisioning
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft operating systems & Active Directory
  • Expert knowledge of cloud concepts and technologies (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
  • Expert working knowledge of Windows security best practices
  • Experience with physical and virtual backup technologies
  • Experience with data migration technologies
  • Experience with Powershell
  • Ability to analyze and interpret system logs and perform necessary due diligence to understand issue
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • A strong sense of focus and excellent attention to detail, while working in a very fast-paced and energetic environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors Degree in an Information Technology or Engineering field.
  • Advanced / current Microsoft and / or VMware certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with EMC storage & backup technologies
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform
  • Experience with hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI)
  • Experience with structured project management or have served as technical lead on infrastructure related project teams.
