Position: Inspection Engineer CAT 2
TUV Rheinland industrial services is looking for an Inspection Engineer CAT 2. The Inspection Engineer reports to the Local Head of department / Team Leader for a team of Inspection staff. For large shutdowns, the inspector is required to coordinate their work with other inspectors. For repairs and fitness for service, the inspector coordinates with functional engineers to define the optimum solution.
This role focuses on Inspection and Certification of pressurised static equipment e.g. vessels, tanks, piping, relief devices, to meet regulatory and client requirements.
Main Accountabilities:
- Preparing and reviewing Written Schemes of Examination (WSE)
- Identifying preparation requirements from the WSE
- Examination in accordance with the WSE
- Undertaking simple NDT – ultrasonic thickness checks, magnetic particle, dye penetrant
- Coordination of NDT providers for extensive requirements or specialist methods
- Preparation of clear reports including photographs
- Assessment of deterioration
- Reviewing design calculations and sentencing defects
- Participation in Risk Based Inspection studies
Position Interactions:
- This role requires interaction with client maintenance managers and technical staff. Also, the Inspector will coordinate NDE contractors and oversee repair/fabrication activities at fabricators' premises.
- Other Inspectors, Senior Inspection Engineers, Inspection Managers, Functional (vessels, piping, materials) Engineers, Fabricators, Client Operations and Maintenance staff.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to accurately follow procedures
- Understanding of engineering principles
- Able to make and defend difficult decisions
- Ability to interact and work with others
- Mechanical Engineering background
- Chemical or oil and gas sector experience
- Understanding of fabrication or repair of pressure equipment
- Experience of non-destructive examination techniques
Qualifications and Experience:
- HNC/Degree Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- At least 5 years’ experience within a relevant engineering discipline, of which at least one year shall have been spent working within an engineering discipline associated with in-service inspection of pressure systems
