Description

As a member of the global Aurorium Process Engineering Team, the Senior Process Engineer is responsible for executing business unit driven process development programs using practical application of fundamental engineering principles. This role offers a mindset for the development, design, and introduction of new chemical processes from lab through to full scale manufacture of new and existing products, provides ongoing technical support for existing businesses including the improvement and optimization of chemical processes.

Responsibilities

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Defines, leads, and executes process research and development projects to generate process data, optimize and de-risk process technology
  • Incorporates commercial and operational cost elements into project objectives to target both commercial and technical success
  • Develops appropriate engineering models to improve scaleup and operation of Aurorium technologies and to secure and enhance Aurorium process knowledge
  • Delivers new chemical process design for the engineering team and supports the execution of projects from concept to commercial scale production

  • Complies with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and arrangements
  • Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly
  • Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times

  • Participates in problem solving
  • Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business
  • Assists in the training, mentoring and assessment of other team members
  • Exercises autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance
Qualifications/Desired Skills

Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering is required
  • Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or a PhD is preferred
Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience within technology commercialization for chemical products
  • Specialized expertise in any of the following is preferred: crystallization, converting batch processing to continuous, integrated reaction/separations
  • Experience with Aspen modeling, Minitab, and DCS infrastructure is preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience planning and managing cross functional teams and projects
  • Demonstrated use of Six Sigma tools and techniques or similar to analyze data from development programs, plan and prioritize tasks, and develop design parameters for commercial process technology
  • Analytical approach to defining unit operations and developing process equipment calculations and designs
  • Experience with full scale chemical plant operation and scale-up from laboratory to pilot and full plant production
  • Experience working in PSM regulated environment and leading safety reviews
  • Fundamental knowledge of continuous and batch chemical operations including reaction, distillation, heat exchange, solids handling, utilities, and process control
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and priorities
  • Self-motivated and ability to work within a fast-paced environment
  • Critical thinking skills and analytical abilities which allow assessments of situations and opportunities to drive decisions
  • Exhibits a passion for continuous improvement and problem solving
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications such as Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, etc.
