This hybrid position offers a mix of working in person at Ruan Center downtown Des Moines and remote.
Candidate must live within a reasonable commute of Des Moines, IA or be able to relocate.
Must have 6+ years in security operations plus experience leading work for others.
Required experience: MS Defender and InTune, Active Directory / Entra, incident response, and designing and architecting security solutions.
The Senior Security Engineer will direct other Security Engineers in operational efforts of the security stack. They will provide infrastructure and security support for our entire virtual server and datacenter environment that includes hybrid cloud infrastructure and security. Ensure compliance with licensing and software maintenance activities around patching, vulnerability management, and overall security. Oversee and direct trouble ticket resolution within defined SLA's and documented procedures. Participate in disaster recovery testing exercises. Participate in on-call rotation for critical security event escalations. Work with Senior Architects to design and lead security-related implementation projects and manage work efforts of other team members in a cross-functional team environment. Must be able to navigate and adapt to a fast-paced and ever-changing environment with a cross-functional team of like-minded Information Technology professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Interface with cross-functional team members, both within and outside of engineering, to determine business and technology security needs and requirements.
- Assist with the selection, design, and implementation of platform and operational level security controls.
- Design and architect security solutions for a modern Azure application environment.
- Perform incident response responsibilities as they relate to potential and confirmed security breaches.
- Develop solutions for automating repetitive security-related tasks and foundational guardrail-like systems for proactively ensuring infrastructure security compliance.
- Provide subject matter expertise on the topics of Information, Cloud, and Application Security to other IT teams.
- Perform and assist with the development of procedures and systems for "Red Team"-style work such as Network Vulnerability Assessment, Web Application Vulnerability assessment and manual validation of security control effectiveness.
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.
Course of Study: STEM related discipline, including Informatics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, and/or Security/Cybersecurity.
Experience: 6 - 9 years, Information Security Operations, Systems and/or Network Administration or Engineering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Skills required in the following areas: Experience securing Azure based DevOps environments, including but not limited to the security of different Azure Services, secure design of VPC architectures, best practices for IAM configuration and security of data at rest/in-transit within or across Azure accounts etc. Experience with virtualized security appliances (Sentinel, Checkpoint, Proofpoint, etc) a plus. Experience with one of the following object-oriented languages: Ruby, Python, Go is a plus. Familiarity with Linux shell scripting. Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code technology such as CloudFormation or Terraform. Experience with performing manual validation of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) manually or with Microsoft's Defender platform. Experience with targeted threat hunting. Experience participating in or leading security incident response.
