About Advanced Sawmill Machinery (ASM):
Established in 1994, we fabricate the highest caliber, most durable machinery on the market and supply major sawmills around the world. ASM is a large capacity precision machine shop with CNC capabilities. We fabricate almost everything in-house. ASM has several large-scale milling machines which are capable of machining large, welded assembly, up to 6’x6’x22’.
Position: Mechanical Designer and Drafter
Location: Holt, FL
Be part of multidisciplinary and nimble design team supporting the forest products industry. Design
custom equipment utilizing AutoCAD and SolidWorks software. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will create assembly drawings, fabrication details, and installation packages, while working closely with the inter- company team and vendors to develop high performing and cost competitive solutions to meet our customers’ project demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop accurate and detailed models and technical drawings for machinery and components using AutoCAD.
- Create fabrication details, assembly drawings and installation packages, ensuring that all necessary specifications and measurements are included.
- Provide technical support during fabrication and installation of new equipment.
- Field measure of existing facilities.
- Design and modify machinery and components to meet specific customer needs and optimize performance.
- Work closely with engineers and project managers to understand design requirements and incorporate feedback into designs.
- Ensure all design files, drawings, and revisions are accurately documented and stored in the company’s database for future reference.
- Ensure that all designs comply with industry safety standards and company protocols, incorporating necessary safety features into the designs.
- Other duties as requested.
What We’re Looking For:
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting.
- 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in heavy equipment & machinery design, experience in sawmill/forest industry a bonus.
- 2+ years of experience with AutoCAD required.
- Ability to use SolidWorks and Master-Cam considered an asset.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Ability to travel within the region as needed.
- Solid understanding of mechanical principles, with a keen ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings.
- Ability to follow directions and collaborate effectively within a team, both in-person and virtually, while contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
- Demonstrated excellence in both verbal and written communication, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively.
Knowledge and application of:
- common structural steel shapes and other construction materials.
- steel fabrication techniques and methods.
- Knowledge and application of power transmission components.
- Knowledge and application of OSHA guarding systems.
- Familiarity of bulk material handling systems.
- Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics and control devices.
