Position Title: Assistant Chief Engineer

Reports To: Director of Engineering Department: Engineering

POSITION PURPOSE:

To oversee and participate in maintaining in good working order mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems and related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs. Ensure the upkeep of guest areas to maintain an attractive hotel.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Respond to guest requests (room calls) in a timely and pleasant manner. Requests include but are not limited to repairs of guest room air conditioners, telephones, lighting and electrical, toilets and plumbing, bed frames and furniture, door locks, and high-speed internet connectivity. All tasks are accomplished according to government and LHM Corporate safety and health regulations.
  2. Follow brand guest service guidelines by promptly and courteously responding to guest request calls. If the guest is in the room, always apologize for the issue and thank the guest for bringing the matter to our attention. If the guest is not in the room, place a “Leave Behind” card on the desk explaining the work that was completed. Promptly call the Guest Response Desk back (within 15 minutes of the original call) to inform them of the status of the job.
  3. Oversee and support Maintenance Technicians on the same shift. Provide direction, training and development to ensure staff is following established procedures. Responsible for shift checks, Brand specific logs, guest interaction and follow up procedures, and communication with the following shift regarding project status. Records and reports maintenance-related problem resolution compensation.
  4. Complete preventative maintenance tasks including cleaning air conditioning units and filters, replacing wall and ceiling tiles, patching carpet, replacing light bulbs or fixtures, etc. Ensure maintenance equipment and tools are properly stored, maintained in good working order and accounted for. Inspects physical plant and equipment regularly. Performs preventative maintenance on delegated HVAC equipment.
  5. Diligently maintains HVAC & Mechanical PM Records. Recommends repair requirements to Director/Chief Engineer.
  6. Able to coordinate large mechanical repairs/projects and schedule preventative maintenance without large amounts of supervision. Directs contractors in the proper repair/replacement of mechanical equipment; ensuring efficient and quality work. Coordinates with other department staff concerning maintenance & HVAC issues, which could impact availability of rooms or quality of amenities/service.
  7. Able to enter and organize mechanical specs, history and work orders in CMMS program or equivalent filing program.
  8. Perform project work as assigned including carpentry, painting, wallpaper installation or repair, HVAC repairs, kitchen, laundry or other mechanical equipment maintenance and repairs, bathroom grouting, other equipment repair, etc.
  9. Maintain swimming pool/spa ensuring water is at appropriate PH/chlorine levels. Keep records in the log to document regular testing. Also maintain salt and/or shovel logs during inclement weather. May be required to obtain CPO certification.
  10. Follow through with any other directives delegated by the Department Manager or any other hotel management staff.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions.

  1. Attend all hotel meetings as necessary. Successfully completes general hotel and position-specific training requirements.
  2. Supports and follows directives of LHM Corporate Staff, Hotel Management and Executive Committee members.
  3. Maintains safe work area by working in a safe and conscientious manner using and storing equipment as directed by supervisor or general safety rules.
  4. Participates in fire brigade/emergency response team efforts. Supports other departments to ensure successful health, sanitation and OSHA inspections.
  5. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor such as: cross training, assisting in other departments, construction of props etc.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.

Employees are required to attend mandatory group and/or department meetings in addition to their regularly scheduled shift as necessary.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  1. Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
  2. Knowledge of electrical systems, components, and devices, H.V.A.C. systems, mechanical systems, and the maintenance and repair of all.
  3. Skills in the use of a computer and software programs associated with engineering.
  4. Skilled in the proper and safe use of all tools, equipment, materials, chemicals, and products related to the department.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, and patrons. Ability to provide direction and leadership to maintenance technicians.
  6. Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  7. Ability to bend, lift, push and pull equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 150 lbs.
  8. Ability to effectively use senses: sight, hearing, smell, etc. to detect signs of emergency situations.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent schooling. Vocational graduate in HVAC or related mechanical field.

Experience:

  • Prior industrial maintenance experience required.
  • 5 years work experience in related mechanical field -and/or-
  • 5 years work experience in hotel engineering and mechanical maintenance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 43 per week
