JOB SUMMARY

The Field Engineer, Ghana will be responsible for the management of the equipment used for the fuel marking program in Ghana (and as such is located in-country). In addition, the Field Engineer will also assist with any other programs or opportunities globally as needed and directed by the Program Instrumentation Manager. The objective of this position is to conduct routine maintenance on instrumentation and ensure that contractual agreed quantities of instrumentation are available to the client and our partners.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are representative of the functions that must be performed in order to satisfactorily fulfill the purpose of this job. Additional functions and duties may be assumed or assigned from time to time:

  1. Travel inside Ghana and occasional international travel to meet the objectives of the business to install and maintain instrumentation.
  2. Train local partner and client personnel.
  3. Conduct periodic maintenance and reactive repair visits to mobile or stationary laboratory or other class of locations.
  4. Conduct audits as is required.
  5. Focus on continuous improvement.
  6. Work closely and flexibly with internal and external clients.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of this job:

  1. BS in Science or Engineering.
  2. > 5 years’ experience working with technology (IT, science, engineering, or chemistry).
  3. Proficiency with Windows software troubleshooting.
  4. Experience in the use of and basic maintenance of laboratory analytical equipment.
  5. Possess the ability to perform moderate to complex troubleshooting activities on various lab instrumentation in an independent manner, following required procedures.
  6. Good mechanical aptitude.
  7. Basic understanding of software trouble shooting.
  8. Ability to exercise complex analytical skills and to make decisions based on established company guidelines.
  9. Excellent communication in written and verbal form.
  10. Possess excellent customer service skills.
  11. Detail-oriented and organized with strong initiative and sense of ownership with all aspects of the job.
  12. Comfort and flexibility to travel internationally if required.
  13. Effective time management.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Due to the work requirements of this position, it is not a normal Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 job; there may be occasions when work will be required in the evenings and or at weekends. There may be a requirement to travel some weekends or evenings. There is an amount of travelling involved and candidates should have no barriers or impediments to travel by air, road, rail or sea. The candidate will report to the Program Instrumentation Manager however, some day to day activity may also be given by the In Country Program Management and or the Senior Director of Field Maintenance.

Fluency in English
French language proficiency would be advantageous.
Specific experience in the setup, maintenance and basic repair of GC, GC-MS and or Fluorimeters would be advantageous.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time; must be able to hear and verbally communicate in order to exchange information in person or over the phone; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement; to occasionally travel to other locations using various modes of private or commercial transportation.
