Job Requirements / Description
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The primary functions include operating multi-axes computer numerical control (CNC) milling machines or lathes to machine surfaces of metallic and nonmetallic work pieces.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the Major Responsibilities, including the following:
• Loads material in machine. Starts machine and observes cutting operation
• Ability to finish set up of a machine with minimal assistance and within a reasonable time frame
• Makes offsets independently to finish the set-up process
• Sets up and replaces tools without supervision
• Recognizes tool wear before dimensions are affected
• Ability to make basic changes to programs on machines
• Compares numerical data display with specifications on operations sheet
• Adjusts tool lengths and fixture offsets if required
• Monitors tooling usage for maximum cost effectiveness
• Responsible for the accuracy and quality of the part
• Ability to understand and document requirements of Inspecting Plans
• Authorized to stop processes to ensure quality
• Responsible for machine turnovers to adjacent shift operators
• Works overtime as required
• Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or at least one-year related experience and/or training
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, routers and inspections procedures
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Ability to read and understand G and M code programming
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry or ability to use a trig book.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations preferred.
REASONING ABILITY :
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrates mechanical aptitude
• Operates basic measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, surface plate checks and optical comparators.
