Engineer Associate: $44.03 / hour
Engineer/Architect 1: $3527.25 / biweekly

What you will be doing:

Engineering Assistant 3
Under the general supervision of a Registered Professional Engineer, perform journey level design engineering duties for highways, aviation, and marine civil works projects. Work includes research, development, and final production of project plans, specifications, quantities, estimates, and engineering documents. Typically, this position is the lead for mid-level in complexity projects and assists higher level Engineers with more complex projects.

Engineering Associate
Under the general direction of a Registered Professional Engineer, perform journey level design engineering duties for highways, aviation, and marine civil works projects. An Engineer Associate is proficient with research, development, and final production of project plans, specifications, quantities, estimates, and engineering documents. An Engineer Associate should be able to prioritize and work on multiple projects as well as coordinate support group meetings with technical support staff as needed to maintain project deadlines.

Engineer / Architect 1
Under the general direction of a Registered Professional Engineer, perform advanced level design engineering duties for highways, aviation, and marine civil works projects. This position will act as the design team lead under the engineering manager and will schedule and coordinate design deliverables with other lower rank team members as well as support staff and outside entities. This position is proficient with research, development, coordination of project team meetings, and final production of project plans, specifications, quantities, estimates, and engineering documents. This is a leadership position that can certify and take responsibility for work by signing and sealing work products with a professional engineer stamp.

Who we are looking for:

• Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
• Design: Knowledge of conceptualizing, developing, producing, understanding, and using plans, models, blueprints, and maps, including the use of tools and instruments to produce precision technical drawings, working prototypes, components, or systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineering Assistant 3
Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Or:
A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitutions:
Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.

Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).

Engineering Associate
Eight years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering, land surveying or architecture, of which one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution: ABET accredited college or technical school courses in engineering, architecture, land surveying or a closely related curriculum may be substituted for the non-specific required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET may substitute for four years of the non-specific required experience.

Engineer/Architect 1
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Special Note: Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineering Assistant 3, Engineering Associate, or Engineer/Architect 1 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
