The ONSR Automation organization is building a new service to enhance real-time visibility of OCI cloud health to better support our ONSR operators. This is a “built from scratch” opportunity but requires team members with a strong orientation toward operations as an engineering skill set and a never-ending commitment to the customer experience. You will have a unique opportunity to work with many OCI service teams as well as our partners in SaaS and other Oracle, government facing product organizations.We are looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer to help build, operate, and scale this service.ResponsibilitiesAs Principal Software Engineer, you will be a founding member of this team and collaborate with your fellow software team members, and supporting architects, for the software design, development, and operations of our new product. In this role, you will enable the development team by driving design of major service components, working with engineering managers and TPMs, and providing direct guidance to more junior team members. You can go from high level system design, writing architectural documentation and driving engineering peer reviews to hands-on prototyping, code reviews and project bootstrapping.You will design and develop code, unit tests, integration tests, use CI/CD pipeline for pre-production functionality, performance, and scalability testing. As an engineering leader, we expect you to raise the bar for the entire engineering organization – whether through best engineering practices, operational excellence, development process or shared code contributions. You will collaborate with other service teams and participate in our engineering community to drive the best possible customer experience – both internal and external.Minimum RequirementsMust possess and maintain an active TS/SCI and be willing to obtain Polygraph Government Security clearance6+ years distributed service engineering experience in a software development environment, preferably on cloud-based platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI, etc.Strong development experience in Java writing highly concurrent, maintainable codeExperience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and maintaining large-scale infrastructureExperience with unit/integration testing and TDD (test-driven development)Hands-on experience designing, developing, and operating public cloud service control planesGood knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentalsGood understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologiesDemonstrable technical leadership and mentorship skillsExperience working with internal customers and converting request into actionable developmentExcellent communications skills, both verbal and written, including authoring design document, technical specifications, and product/service reviewsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related engineering fieldPreferred QualificationsMasters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related engineering fieldPrevious experience working with large-scale, cloud-based telemetry solutionsExperience developing and delivering software solutions in US government agencies and/or classified cloudKnowledge of Linux internals, Linux/Unix troubleshooting skillsKnowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations.Experience driving security reviews, documentation, UX reviews, and working with Product Managers from inception through launchBuilding continuous integration/deployment pipelines with robust testing and deployment schedulesAbout UsInnovation starts with inclusion at Oracle.
