What You'll Do

As a new Engineering Manager, you will have a wide range of responsibilities and opportunities to make a significant impact on the success of our team and the Firefly web application. Here is an overview of what you will be doing:

1. Lead and develop the engineering team: Guide and mentor a dedicated squad of highly skilled web and backend engineers throughout the entire development process. Provide technical leadership from research and design to implementation and delivery of Firefly web application features. Leadership will inspire and empower the team to overcome challenges, deliver high-quality work, and expand their impact daily.
2. Collaborate with product management and clients: Work closely with product management and clients to define and refine the product roadmap, user experience, priorities, and schedule. Insights and input will help shape the direction of the Firefly application, ensuring it meets the needs and expectations of our users.
3. Own the progress of the product: Take ownership of the product's development life cycle, closely monitoring progress, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring access to senior leadership when needed. Navigating challenges and providing clear insight into the product's status will be crucial to its success.
4. Attract, hire, and retain top talent: Building a high-powered team is critical, and the Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in attracting, hiring, onboarding, and retaining exceptional engineers. Mentorship, coaching and support will help the team grow both professionally and personally.

What You Need to Succeed

To succeed in this role as the Engineering Manager, the following skills and qualifications are essential:

1. Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field provides a solid foundation for this position.
2. Software Engineering Experience: Proven experience in software engineering is required. This experience should demonstrate a deep understanding of software development principles, practices, and methodologies.
3. Leadership Experience: Clearly demonstrated experience leading software engineering teams. This includes successfully leading and guiding teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
4. Project Management: Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, track progress, and handle resources effectively. You should be able to oversee complex software development projects, ensuring timely delivery and high quality.
5. Strong Technical Background: Experience in developing commercially successful single-page web applications using modern frameworks such as React, Lit, GraphQL, and modern JavaScript.
6. Systems Architecture: Excellent technical skills in evaluating systems architecture, particularly using extensive knowledge of full-stack technologies. Experience with GPU-based architecture is nice to have.
7. Decision-Making: Strong leadership skills are necessary to drive consensus on requirements and ensure timely decision-making.
8. Collaboration and Design: A passion for collaborating with design teams from concept to production is key. Facilitating effective communication and collaboration between engineers and designers will ensure project success.
9. Team Development: A consistent record of developing, leading, coaching, and mentoring software engineers is vital. Fostering a positive and safe environment, ensuring the team's professional development, is needed.
10. Distributed Team Experience: Experience working in diverse, global, and team-focused environments is highly valued. The ability to collaborate and adapt to diverse cultures, time zones, and work styles will contribute to the team's success.
