Job Description

The Lead Data Engineer will design, architect, develop, and lead modern data platform implementation to meet key business objectives. You will engage in understanding key data opportunities to enable business growth and will design right-size and right-fit end-to-end data solutions as part of a broader data strategy and roadmap. As the lead, you will work closely with internal and external project and development teams to ensure successful implementation of data solutions.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead and mentor a team of senior and junior data engineers to develop enterprise grade cloud data solutions on Azure using a combination of native Azure, commercial off-the-shelf and open-source data technologies.
  2. Lead implementation partners when needed and provide day-to-day oversight and leadership for their development team.
  3. Take technical ownership of all solutions designed and developed as part of end-to-end data solutions.
  4. Lead technical work streams in a Scrum/Agile software engineering practice focused on delivery.
  5. Engage with analysts, analytics, and project teams early on to frame use cases and identify data challenges and opportunities.
  6. Develop and establish best practice design patterns and development processes.
  7. Develop and establish DevOps best practice and work closely with hosting and infrastructure teams to implement best practices.
  8. Engage in hands-on development of data models, ingestion pipelines and analytics datasets for batch and streaming data.
  9. Engage in data analysis to understand upstream data and applications.
  10. Document technical implementation details and artifacts.
  11. Serve as a subject matter expert for the technology stack and demonstrate initiative and ownership of deliverables during development, testing and post-production phases.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
  2. 10+ years of experience in Information Technology.
  3. 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
  4. Experience building batch and stream pipelines on Azure (preferred) or other cloud platforms.
  5. Experience with diverse ways of storing and processing data (file vs SQL vs NO-SQL, batch vs streaming, stateful vs stateless).
  6. Experience in the following technology stack, not limited to:
    1. Azure (preferred) or other cloud data technologies
    2. Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools
    3. Blob, Azure Data Lake or similar data stores
    4. Talend, DBT or similar ETL tools
    5. Azure Streaming, Spark, Azure Data Factory
    6. Postgres, SQL Server or other DBs
    7. Power BI, Domo or similar analytic tools
  7. Experience modeling and building data warehouses for analytics consumption.
  8. Strong interpersonal skills, customer-centric attitude, proven team player and team builder.
