Job Summary: As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at LogistiQ, A Division of LEWCO , you will be a part of our Engineering team. The ideal candidate will develop or redesign new or existing company products. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work from order requirements or other specifications and arrive at final design details utilizing CAD software and engineering calculations as required. You may work independently and may be responsible to conduct product testing, troubleshooting, and leading technical or non-technical colleagues to execute projects as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following: (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Design company products using SolidWorks or other engineering software.
  • Create engineering drawings for use in proposals and manufacturing.
  • Create bills of material and routings for use in cost estimates and manufacturing.
  • Create and/or guide other technical team members in authoring owner’s manuals, test procedures, and other engineering deliverables as required.
  • Perform engineering computations and analysis for sizing equipment components, including FEA.
  • Interact with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to meet business objectives on time.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of engineering deliverables from self and other technical peers.
  • Provide support to manufacturing, especially in the areas of BOMs, Routings, design updates, and technical production questions.

Travel Demands:

  • This position may require occasional travel.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing and engineering fundamentals.
  • 3D CAD proficiency is required, mastery is preferred.
  • Proficient in working with ERPs, SyteLine is preferred.
    • Proficient with 3D SolidWorks.
    • Proficient with 2D AutoCAD.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficient in PLM or PDM Systems, mastery is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical controls, controls hardware, and operation.
  • Proficient in power transmission systems including drives, pulleys, belts, motor specification, gearboxes and more, mastery is preferred.
  • Ability to team with our engineering, sales, and production personnel to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to perform/review fundamental engineering calculations employing software or by hand, FEA capability strongly preferred.
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships with all staff at all levels/functions of organization.
  • Proficient in modern manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Proficient in Lean problem solving.
  • Excellent math skills are required. Must be able to perform engineering calculations employing algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as required.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical schematics and customer specifications. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers using the English language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Successful completion of a 60-day probationary period.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or manufacturing.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in sheet metal and/or material handling equipment design.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in tolerancing, GD&T and machine design.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in technical or design leadership capacities.
  • Experience in Parcel/Distribution/E-Commerce conveyor systems design is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Employee spends time on the shop floor, which can be occasionally significant portions of the day and require lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Most of the time will be spent sitting in front of a computer.

Work Environment:

  • The employee works in the office but does have frequent interaction with personnel on the shop floor. Typical workdays are split between the two environments but can sometimes be skewed heavily towards one or the other depending on work content at any given time. The employee may also be required to travel occasionally to work in customers’ plants or at suppliers. In plants, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed but does not require hearing protection in most areas.
