Utility Engineer- On-site
As a member of Utility and Energy Operations team, the Utility Engineer will support the Rahway Campus as well as our Company's North America research facilities including Rahway, Boston, Cambridge, South San Francisco to execute utility, energy, and sustainability projects, maintain design basis, troubleshoot existing systems, and support medium and long-range utility planning.
We are seeking a self-motivated, independent engineer with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to provide engineering support for our campus facilities, master planning, and capital management process. The successful candidate will have an attention to detail, be quality and customer focused, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
The primary activities include and are not limited to the following:
- Function as a Subject Matter Expert on all power generation equipment and processes.
- Lead power generation compliance program including continuous emissions monitoring.
- Supports capital project development, operational and maintenance planning, design, and commissioning.
- Establishes operational performance measurements, monitoring, and analytical systems/tools to drive accountability and achieve high levels of performance.
- Develop, support, and implement sustainability initiatives.
- Coordination and execution of assigned projects. Maintains active dialogue with team members and site management of project progress.
- Routinely works with Maintenance and Utility departments on preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Coordinates system engineering, operation, and maintenance activities with internal and external partners.
- Executes activities to support site targets and financial forecasting.
- Provides technical expertise in the investigation of complex technical problems and develops innovative solutions using current and new technologies or approaches.
- Maintains an awareness of new technology and continually seeks application opportunities for new installations, existing system upgrades and operation/maintenance improvements. Strives to provide a state-of-the-art facility with best-in-class service and cost.
- Creates a knowledge management base in FM.
- Supports Maintenance in Root Cause Analysis of Equipment and System failures.
- Develops Scope of Work to support Contractor Bids for Repair Work.
- Supports reliability initiatives.
- Promotes standardization and sharing best practices.
- Implements sustainability initiatives and cross-functional collaborations to support the global vision.
Position Qualifications:
Education Minimum Requirement:
- High School diploma with a New Jersey high pressure boiler operator's license blue seal or higher, or
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Minimum 5 years in the power generation design, operation, and/or maintenance.
- Two years’ experience with process trending and data analysis.
- Equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Ability to work in a group setting with strong organization, follow-up, and multi-tasking skills.
- Must be detail-oriented and exhibit excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Experience in using the following software: PI Process Book.
- General understanding of industrial site power, utilities, boilers, and operational services.
- Control Systems understanding.
- Compressed air, steam, and condensate systems.
- Professional designations including Professional Engineering License, PMP, and Change Management preferred.
- Application of Lean Six Sigma Methodology, Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, knowledge in reliability engineering (including asset life cycle management).
