Hybrid Chicago position.... WFH + in office DT Chicago

The Manager of Fleet Engineering Records & Data is responsible for overseeing the Records & Data, along with the Mechanical Records Analyst group, UMLER Specialist, AAR / DOT coordinator, Records Supervisor and Record Clerks ensuring that all new/existing data, records, projects, applications, enhancements, developments, and maintenance comply with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.

Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership, training, guidance and objectives to the Records Supervisor, Railcar Mechanical Records Analysts, UMLER Specialist, AAR/DOT Coordinator and Records Clerks. Ensures functions are carried out in an accurate and timely manner and addresses any issues of concern regarding personnel matters such as performance.
  • Ensures all regulatory documents and data are accurate , processed and recorded in a timely manner. Fleet Engineering personnel are properly trained and function to maintain the integrity of the AAR Tank Car Integrated Database (TCID) and assure it is current with all regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiates with regulatory agencies and resolves discrepancies and inquiries from repair shops and various other internal/external contacts.
  • Maintains and performs research of all technical files, external requests and support of company litigation. customers’ requests and investigations.
  • Manages archival and retention requirements for all records including sensitive and confidential controlled documents and files.
  • Participates in and actively supports quality projects, Continuous Improvement activities, and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to build/develop strong relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Solid grasp of relevant regulations and understand legal implications of document storage and retention periods.
  • Ability to produce accurate and timely results while maintaining a customer-service attitude.
  • Interfaces directly and effectively with multiple departments across a variety of technical levels.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office 365 Applications (Outlook, Word and Excel).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline preferred; or Associates/Technical degree with any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Minimum of 5+ years relevant work experience in engineering document management/control field.
  • Substantial knowledge of tank cars, components and drawings is desirable.
