About The Team
SmartThings offers an experienced Engineering Manager a unique opportunity to lead our Release Engineering team. We’re seeking a technical engineering manager excited about forming a DevOps practice and being a thought leader in continuous integration and deployment pipelines. The ideal candidate will be excited to reach out to teams, understand their essential needs, and plan accordingly. The ideal candidate will also help share improvements and solicit action on upgrade patches to ensure that our platform is continuously healthy from the operational aspect of the software.
Key Responsibilities
This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Mountain View, CA.
- Customer Focus:
- Active solicitation of requirements
- Curate team roadmap
- Foster healthy working relationships in distributed teams
- Balance business needs, internal requests, and team needs
- Business Execution Management:
- Track progress and maintain a clear perspective on deadlines and roadmaps
- Communication with stakeholders on roadmap highlights, status, and risks
- Vendor management of tools used for production as the technical owner
- Strong organization skills
- Domain Expertise and Leadership:
- Automation first, find creative solutions to complex problems
- Build and support domain expertise within the team, find opportunities to run PoCs, and help establish a technical roadmap, enabling the team to become the domain technical leader with operational excellence.
- Team Leadership:
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members personally and professionally
- Grow your team by recruiting and retaining strong technical and inclusive contributors
- Lead end-to-end execution of initiatives and projects with your team and technical staff.

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or similar field
- 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, leading a team of 5 or more developers
- 5+ years of experience in cloud software development/cloud operations DevOps
- 2+ years of experience with IaaC (Infrastructure as Code)
- Hands-on experience with managing cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Strong experience working with CI/CD tooling
- Experience working in a Corporate environment
- Strong organization skills (balancing team capacity with commitments)
- Strong communication skills
Desired Skills
- Cloud software development experience, Java/Kotlin
- K8s operators
- Flexibility of kanban, scrum, waterfall
- Mix experience of startup and enterprise

Compensation for this role for a candidate based in Mountain View is expected to be between $174,972 and $262,458. Additionally, this role is eligible for a 20% annual target bonus potential, depending on company and individual performance.
