  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Minimum of 8 years working experience
  • Highly proficient in 3D CAD modeling, SolidWorks
  • Diligent and precise large assembly and PDM management practices a must
  • History of high-level contribution to Machine Design
  • Understanding of the pros and cons of pure kinematic constraint, pseudo kinematic constraint, and elastic over constraint
  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly
    • Understands how to make appropriate design decisions based on the limitations of various modern machining, welding, and fabrication technologies
    • Thinks ahead and strategizes for tool access and fixturing needs for assembly
  • Control System experience
    • Testing: Demonstrated ability to measure frequency response plots and move and settle traces
    • Analysis: Demonstrated ability to model and design filters for control system servo loop, create models of frequency response and move and settle
  • Vibration measurement experience
    • Expertise using a spectrum analyzer, accelerometers and capacitive sensors

Candidates Should Have Some Of The Following Capabilities

  • Knowledge of high precision manufacturing processes and capabilities, grinding lapping diamond turning etc.
  • Sensor Selection
    • Capable of defining sensor requirements and selecting sensors
    • Experience working with vendors communicating and understanding requirements
  • Bearing selection
    • Capable of appropriately selecting bearings through understanding of Stiffness, load capacity, lifetime calculations, and how those affect system performance
  • Mechatronics or robotics experience
    • Capable of Motor sizing and selection
    • Capable of Encoder selection
  • FEA
    • Experienced in static structural, thermal structural, frequency response, random vibration simulations
  • Thermal
    • Can model basic lumped parameter analysis
    • Can perform motor temperature calculations
    • Capable of creating test plans and instrumenting and logging thermal tests
  • Data acquisition
    • Experience programming data acquisition software or equipment such as Labview, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.
    • Capable of selecting and using required equipment for specific data acquisition tasks
    • Capable of defining Error budgets
    • Capable of performing Tolerance analysis of systems with many components
    • Experience designing static and flex cables
  • Pneumatics
    • Experience designing with and selecting pneumatic actuators, solenoids, sensors, and fittings
    • Capable of pressure and vacuum calculations necessary for simple pneumatic circuits
  • Experienced in designing for ultra clean environments
    • Particle cleanliness
    • Airborne molecular contamination cleanliness
  • Experience doing basic data analysis and programming in Matlab or similar software
