Zap Energy is searching for an experienced Data Acquisition and Instrumentation Engineer to join its R&D team. In this role, you will employ a broad range of software services, electronics, and measurement competencies to empower scientists with actionable data from Zap's fusion development platforms.

Qualifications

Required

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in a germane technical discipline such as computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or similar.

  2. At least 5 years' professional experience in a collaborative scientific or industrial R&D environment.

  3. At least 3 years' experience in a role supporting the collection and storage of experiment data from different types of measurement instruments.

  4. Proficiency in multiple programming languages with the ability to explore, understand, and debug new source code independently. Proficiency in Python and Linux shell required. Additional languages such as C, C++, Java, etc. preferred.

  5. Experience administering databases or other software services on Linux for providing access and insight into experimental data.

  6. Functional understanding of networking and experience interfacing with networked hardware devices using command line interfaces or binary protocols.

  7. Proficiency with git source control and workflow management services like Gitlab or Github.

  8. Experience using common devops technologies such as Docker or Nix.

Preferred

  1. Demonstrated ability to study and effectively use APIs from commercial vendors or open-source projects.

  2. Competency in common scientific measurement equipment such as analog signal digitizers, digital IO, delay generators, oscilloscopes, etc.

  3. Familiarity with science data storage technologies like time series databases, parquet, HDF5, MDSplus, etc.

  4. Experience in a high-voltage environment and signal interference sources such as EMI and ground loops.

  5. Exposure to nanosecond-scale measurements and distributed clock synchronization, like White Rabbit or PTP 1588.

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $90K-130K. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and the actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications. The range is published in accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act.
