Purpose of Position

As a Manager, Software Engineering, you will lead an agile engineering team delivering technical solutions using Cloud Native technologies such as ReactJS, TypeScript, AWS Lambda, and much more. You will dive into details on business operations and leverage technology to solve unique and challenging business problems.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes and coordinates the technology, quality, hygiene, and infrastructure delivery of the solution.
  • Determines mitigation strategy of risks and impediments for execution.
  • Accountable for employee development and talent management.
  • Partners with the Solutions Manager to ensure work is prioritized and understood by the Delivery Team.
  • Acts as a point of escalation for the Solutions and Delivery teams for issues/blockers.
  • Accountable for helping the teams resolve/remove impediments and utilizing the Scrum Master and/or IT Project Manager to help where needed.
  • Ensure Solutions and Delivery Team alignment and adherence to Lean-Agile framework and Guardrails.
  • Improves team technical capabilities and skills.
  • Accountable for technical strategy for the 3-6 month time frame.
  • Responsible for managing vendor relationships including the adherence of delivery commitments and adherence to internal standards.
  • Work across the organization for ‘one team’ deliveries that require multiple groups to deliver.
  • Proactively work with stakeholders (business and other IT departments) and business Solution Managers to ensure proper priority of business value, to include technology hygiene and risk.
  • Accountable for the team adhering to all administration responsibilities, including time tracking and HR milestones.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 8-10 years of experience working in IT with 3+ years of software development experience as a manager.
  • Experience working directly within engineering teams, and track record of leveraging technology to solve business problems of varying degrees of complexity.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner, consumed by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, modern engineering practices (TDD, test automation, CI/CD pipelines, Cloud Native development) and a track record of shipping software on time by owning and delivering customer centric solutions.
  • Track record of driving results through continuous improvement and in a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience with agile software development.
  • Experience designing and/or directing teams to design software architectures for scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Experience establishing and evolving engineering development processes.
  • A passion for people management and mentorship to build high performance software engineering teams by inspiring and developing talented professionals to meet their individual and organizations goals.
  • Experience with acquiring, cultivating talent through multiple pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts in technology and business.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement, make sound decisions, and escalate issues / decision making where appropriate.
  • Experience facilitating meetings with multiple customers and technical staff, including building consensus and mediating compromises when necessary.
  • Experience supporting mission critical (24x7) applications with the ability to instill a culture of continuous improvement reducing production outages/incidents, driving stability and reliability.
