Job Requirements / Description

The Engineering and Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the entire Maintenance Planning, Mechanical, Electrical and Purchasing Departments. This individual will be responsible for the overall site ownership and leadership for best maintenance practices. This position will assist with capital and maintenance projects and support corporate initiatives. In addition, the Engineering and Maintenance Manager will be responsible for coordinating the mill maintenance business strategy/plan, controlling the entire R&M cost, overseeing preventive maintenance and planned maintenance completion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly reports to the General Manager any information that may impede the operation of the plant consistently.
  • Lead and improve the entire maintenance organization, designing and implementing long-term continuous improvement applications and systems to enhance the longevity of the site’s equipment.
  • Supervise maintenance staff to include hiring, training, evaluating performance, providing compensation recommendations, and determining disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Initiate and/or maintain a cost-effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Lead and help plan contract work and installations done by outside vendors.
  • Assist in selection, evaluation, and installation of capital and expense projects.
  • Reduce mill downtime related to maintenance issues.
  • Assist production areas with troubleshooting and other assistance as needed.
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, safety program, and good housekeeping.
  • Actively participate in planning and executing outages for the facility.
  • Responsible for maintaining records associated with mechanical integrity.
  • Provide on-call and weekend duty coverage within a designated rotation.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the Mechanical and Electrical departments and Purchasing Manager.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

The minimum educational and experience requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least five (5) years maintenance management experience in a manufacturing environment.

Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:

  • Ten (10) plus years’ experience of maintenance management within a paper mill.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience working in Mechanical and Electrical Departments.

LANGUAGE/READING SKILLS:

The candidate must speak and write English at a college level.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes.
  • Ability to write business reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, contractors, and employees.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • The candidate must be able to understand and use simple conversions and algebraic formulas.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, and volume.
  • Able to apply concepts of algebra and geometry along with basic math (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing).

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to lead root cause analysis and problem-solving teams. Analytical and field troubleshooting skills.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical machinery, including conveyor systems, breakers, boilers, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, etc. Knowledge of computer systems and the ability to learn new complex applications. The candidate must be able to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and chemical systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
