Summary of Position :
The Reservoir Engineer IV - Machine Learning will perform and lead reservoir engineering technical work for the Permian Business unit working on projects including quantifying reserves and resources and providing reservoir engineering support for efficient development of Civitas’s Permian Assets. They will work closely with land, geology, development, and operations to gather and analyze data for economic modeling of the resource. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the oil and gas industry and leveraging advanced data analytics techniques. You will be responsible for analyzing reservoir performance, developing predictive models, and providing actionable insights to enhance decision-making processes.
Primary Job Responsibilities :
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of reservoir performance using industry-standard reservoir engineering tools and techniques.
- Evaluate well and reservoir data to identify opportunities for optimization.
- Oversee the collection, validation, and integration of reservoir and production data from various sources.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and comprehensive data sets for analysis.
- Apply advanced data analytics methodologies to extract meaningful patterns, trends, and correlations from reservoir data.
- Develop and implement predictive models to forecast reservoir behavior and performance.
- Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to support reservoir management decisions.
- Collaborate with reservoir management and production teams to optimize field development plans.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in reservoir engineering and data analytics technologies.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness in reservoir management.
- Clearly communicate complex technical concepts and analysis results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to support decision-making at various organizational levels.
- Work with a broad multi-disciplinary team to create efficient field development and/or exploration programs to maximize value and increase reserve estimates using all aspects of petroleum engineering.
- Help develop, test and administer surveillance programs to adequately evaluate upside potential.
- Supports and participates in quarterly reserve processes.
- Performs economic evaluations of trades, leasing, and acquisitions.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior reservoir engineers and support staff.
- Follow safe operating practices and ensure compliance with CIVI Environment, Safety & Regulatory requirements.
- Assure work performed adheres to CIVI standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:
- Experience with Petroleum Economics and Reserves Software, such as Aries, required.
- Experience with Database Management Systems, such as Access, required.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and business acumen required.
- Ability to thrive in both an independent and collaborative work environment and have exceptional skills in managing multiple demands, including prioritizing deadlines.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be flexible and grasp new concepts quickly.

- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft 360 products (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Experience with Data Visualization Software, such as Power BI or Spotfire preferred.
Education & Experience :
- Minimum of 10 years related experience in oil and gas.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Reservoir Engineer.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB.
- Experience with machine learning algorithms and predictive modeling.
- B.S. degree in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or Geological Engineering required.
Travel Requirements :
- Work is performed at a CIVI location Tues-Thurs with an option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
- Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday.
- Travel required to the Civitas field locations.
