The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Swiss-type CNC machinery, multi-axis turn & mill machinery, and the application of supercritical CO2 technology to optimize production speed, reduce tool wear and produce deburr-free components in PEEK plastics, Titanium and Cobalt Chrome alloys.

This position will be hybrid requiring up to 25% time at Canton, MI facility and 75% of the time at domestic and international Customer sites to advise and work on programming support and productivity & quality challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

Programming:

  • Develop, test, and optimize CNC programs for Swiss-type CNC machinery and multi-axis turn & mill machines using advanced CAD/CAM software.
  • Utilize supercritical CO2 technology in programming to enhance production efficiency, tool longevity, and product quality.
  • Create detailed CNC programs ensuring precise manufacturing of bone screw implants and aerospace fasteners.

Machine Setup and Operation:

  • Set up Swiss-type CNC and multi-axis turn & mill machinery for production runs, ensuring optimal machine configuration.
  • Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials, considering the use of supercritical CO2 for cooling and deburring.
  • Conduct test runs to validate programs and adjust as necessary to meet tight tolerances and specifications.

Quality Control:

  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure components meet strict medical and aerospace standards.
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures, leveraging supercritical CO2 technology to achieve deburr-free finishes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any programming or machining issues promptly.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Document any program changes or process improvements and communicate these to the team.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for further optimization.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing production speed, tool wear, and component quality.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in CNC technology, supercritical CO2 applications, and machining techniques.
  • Mentor and train junior machinists and programmers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree or certification in CNC programming, machining, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC programming and operation, with specific experience in Swiss-type CNC and multi-axis turn & mill machinery.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in advanced CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Deep understanding of Swiss-type CNC and multi-axis turn & mill machinery.
  • Knowledge of materials used in medical implants and aerospace fasteners, such as titanium and stainless steel.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and ISO standards.
  • Experience with supercritical CO2 technology for cooling and deburring processes.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
