Job Summary:

The Marine Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical and electrical systems on board a barge located in Long Beach. This role ensures that all engineering activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance and Repair:
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on generators, pumps, and other mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory.
  1. Operation and Monitoring:
  • Operate and monitor the performance of the auxiliary systems.
  • Ensure all systems are functioning efficiently and respond promptly to any alarms or anomalies.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  1. Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international maritime regulations and standards.
  • Participate in safety drills and emergency response exercises.
  1. Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other crew members to ensure smooth vessel operations.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior engineering staff and deck crew on technical and safety matters.
  • Communicate effectively with the shore-based management team regarding maintenance needs and operational status.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs of equipment performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare reports on equipment status, repairs, and inspections for management review.
  • Ensure all documentation is in compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of marine systems, auxiliary machinery, and electrical systems.
  • Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Familiarity with maritime safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed on board a barge located in the harbor. You will be able to come home every night.
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform tasks that require lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
