Overview:
The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the successful implementation and integration of Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) into LA Metro public transportation networks. This role involves comprehensive testing, troubleshooting, and coordination with various teams to ensure vehicles meet operational standards and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not are limited to:
Testing and Commissioning:
* Oversee the entire commissioning process for Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) projects, from initial testing to final acceptance, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
* Conduct a wide range of testing and evaluate results against established criteria to determine acceptance.
* Verify vehicle performance and identify and resolve technical issues. This includes functional tests, acceptance tests, and troubleshooting complex problems.
* Develop detailed testing and commissioning procedures and work instructions.
* Efficiently schedule and coordinate commissioning activities.
Technical Analysis and Troubleshooting:
* Interpret engineering drawings and schematics to inspect and troubleshoot electro-mechanical assemblies.
* Investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
* Analyze fault logs from LRVs to identify and address issues.
* Prepare incident reports and failure analysis reports, and review vendor-provided reports.
* Apply technical expertise of LRV systems and components, including traction, braking, signaling, and communication systems.
Technical Support and Problem-Solving:
* Collaborate with engineers, vendors, and other personnel to resolve technical malfunctions.
* Propose design modifications to prevent recurring issues.
* Provide timely technical information and support to customers.
* Assist in engineering activities, including test design, equipment setup, and troubleshooting complex problems.
* Collaborate with the other team members of Quality Control and Quality Assurance to ensure that all commissioning activities meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Additional Duties:
* Create technical drawings using CAD software.
* Maintain detailed records of testing procedures, results, and any corrective actions taken.
* Provide regular updates on the progress of commissioning activities to project management and relevant stakeholders.
* Travel to LA Metro Commissioning sites as needed to provide technical support and guidance to the commissioning team.
* Undertake special assignments as directed by management.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in the rail industry, preferably in commissioning and warranty process of transportation systems.
* Strong understanding of LRV systems and components, including traction, braking, signaling, and communication systems.
* Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems and identify root causes.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
* Experience working in a fast-paced environment and meeting tight deadlines.
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD, and related engineering software.
* Familiarity with MATLAB and other relevant test applications.
* Willingness to work on variable schedules.
* Ability to commute to multiple locations as needed.
* Openness to domestic travel.
The base pay range above represents the low and high end of the base compensation range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual base compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, actual experience, and job performance.
