Job Responsibilities

  • Provide career advising and career education programs for College of Engineering students.
  • Primary focus on either undergraduate or graduate students, depending on interest & experience.
  • Serve as team lead for one of our five support functions.
  • We are a six-person team running a full-service career office for students who are smart, hard-working, and in high demand for their STEM skills & education.

Programs and services include:

  • Individual advising, workshops, career courses, and online resources.
  • Career fairs hosted in fall and spring, both in-person and virtual.
  • Alumni mentorship & networking programs.
  • Employer outreach and event hosting.
  • High-quality marketing to promote our events, programs, and opportunities.
  • Survey & data collection on internship and first-destination outcomes.

What we value:

  • Diverse backgrounds & perspectives, which enables us to establish trust and rapport with all our students, and to draw on a range of strengths and viewpoints in our teamwork.
  • The initiative to look for new ways to serve our students, the creativity to design workable solutions, and the drive, smarts, and organizational skill to implement them.
  • Desire to grow as a professional: as a smaller office, there is great opportunity to learn new skills, take on new areas of responsibility, and improve your future career prospects.

The way we work:

  • Open & friendly: students, staff, and faculty find us approachable, welcoming, and encouraging.
  • Collaborative & community-oriented: because each advisor oversees one of five support functions, we communicate, coordinate, and cooperate to get things done as a team; to maximize our impact, we work closely with other offices and academic departments.
  • Agile: we plan in advance when possible, but last-minute requests and opportunities are common; we take pride in our ability to move on these in short order.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide 1:1 career advising for students from all College of Engineering programs, with special emphasis on advising undergraduate students.
  • Create, deliver, and continually improve career education programs.
  • Create, distribute, and continually improve career education content, including how-to guides and online video instruction.
