Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Systems Architect Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA or may be fully Remote.

The Systems Architect will provide technical leadership and direction across the Digital Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) thrust across multiple sites. This position will also involve managing project development through production transition, providing mentorship to team members, and managing project goals, objectives, schedules, and cost while adhering to company policy.

As a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology development team, you will define, develop, implement, and transition new technology solutions to manufacturing to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality. Manufacturing concept and process solutions for production applications cover advanced technologies including but not limited to composites fabrication, assembly, automation, inspection, direct part manufacturing, LO technologies, as well as digital capabilities. The role requires incorporation of requirements into development plans and evaluation of performance of processes and tools to verify their efficiency. In addition, you will identify and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure R&D contractual obligations (technical, schedule, and cost) are met and product quality is maintained. In this role, you will provide guidance regarding design concepts, TRL/MRL maturity, and specification requirements to best utilize resources and manufacturing techniques, and ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. This role involves interfacing with internal and external customers, program offices, engineering disciplines, and executive management. In addition, the role will require the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic/fast-paced work environment. Budgeting and Project Management skills will be utilized to properly scope and execute assigned work and manage project efforts.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership/direction to ensure technology initiatives and opportunities for process improvements are systematically identified, pursued, and supported.
  2. Develop architectures and concepts for advanced digital technologies with a focus on implementation within Northrop Grumman.
  3. Interact with customers (internal and external).
  4. Reach out and work with colleges, universities, government, and suppliers as part of development and improvement projects.
  5. Introduce and develop new technologies for the manufacturing floor.
  6. Lead projects consisting of cross-functional teams of high-performing engineers developing advanced systems designs and concepts.
  7. Provide technical leadership and oversight to achieve efficient, effective, and innovative engineering solutions.
  8. Apply new technologies as well as common designs and products enabling rapid development, prototyping, and affordable solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 12 years of experience in systems and product development; OR Master's of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 10 years of experience in systems and product development; OR PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 9 years of experience in systems and product development.
  2. Must have an active Secret Clearance and have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  3. Ability to travel 10% of the time.
  4. Must have at minimum a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (Security+CE).

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Top Secret Security Clearance or higher.
  2. Experience in hardware/software integration of manufacturing systems.
  3. Experience as Principal Investigator on government CRAD and/or Internal Research and Development programs.
  4. Experience with production assembly/fabrication including Digital Transformation, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, Systems Integration, IIoT, RFID, and/or production manufacturing operations.
  5. Working knowledge of classified information systems infrastructure.
  6. Experience working in a Research and Development environment.
  7. Digital Manufacturing experience.
  8. Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and ability to make sound technical judgments with limited information.
  9. Architecture, Design & Integration experience for engineering systems and software.
  10. Technical Writing capability.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $247,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
