Duties: Under the direction of the Manager of the North Section of the North Surveillance and Performance Branch, the incumbent coordinates and performs dam safety inspections, analyzes and evaluates surveillance data from assigned dams and related facilities; elevates performance concerns and anomalies to their chain-of-command in a timely manner, prepares annual performance reports for assigned dams, and maintains other required documentation such as Supporting Technical Information Documents for assigned dams. Incumbent manages and reviews special engineering studies such as hydrology, hydraulics, and stability of dams and their appurtenant structures; inundation mapping; geotechnical evaluation; and other dam safety engineering items. The Incumbent shall become a Subject Matter Expert on their assigned dams and participate on multi-disciplinary teams to address dam safety issues applicable to assigned dams. The incumbent shall adhere to State Water Project (SWP) Dam Safety Program requirements as they relate to execution of their duties, training, and continuous improvement of the Program.

It is desirable for the incumbent to have knowledge and experience in regulatory compliance and interpreting regulations; assessments, inspections, and analysis of Dam Safety, Project Management; Potential Failure Mode Analysis (PFMA) or risk analysis engagement; database and excel experience; engineering design and review experience; technical reports, correspondence, and presentation experience.

This position is office-centered which means the incumbent works fifty percent or less of their time monthly from an alternate work location, which can change at any time. The Department of Water Resources is located in the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) building, which is one of the newest and innovative buildings in Sacramento. It is located right next to Light Rail for an easy commute - we even have a reimbursement subsidy program for public transit.
The Department of Water Resources has established an Operational Availability compensated time off (CTO) bonus as an incentive for Bargaining Unit 9 permanent full-time employees to improve the operational availability of generating and pumping plants in the State Water Project. If the Operational Availability Goals are met eligible employees can receive up to eighty (80) hours of Operational Availability Incentive bonus per calendar year per Bargaining Unit Contract requirements listed under section 3.27.
