We serve as stewards of Massachusetts health data, employing multifaceted datasets and cutting-edge analytics to promote transparency in our health care system. By joining CHIA, you'll help turn health care data into insight by developing compelling content and rollout campaigns that play a pivotal role in evidence-based decision-making.

We are looking to hire a skilled Sr. ETL developer to work with the ETL Development team to create new and maintain existing ETL systems. The developers’ duties will include coding data preparation, analysis, and reporting jobs, performing technical troubleshooting, and providing technical expertise for ETL systems. The developer will work with multiple database technologies and scripting languages, becoming a critical part of the CHIA team.

The temporary Sr. ETL Developer is a key member of CHIA’s software development organization and our Data Operations and Technology team reporting to the Associate Director of Master Data Management and ETL Design. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Design and implement ETL for extracting and transforming data from diverse sources, including databases and flat files.
  • Learn and work with Gartner Magic Quadrant leading ETL tools; IBM DataStage and Qlik Talend.
  • Mentor and lead junior developers.
  • Collaborate with major stakeholders in the organization to understand project requirements and design/deliver high quality solutions.
  • Design and develop required database tables using Snowflake, PostGreSQL, and SQL Server database technologies.
  • Collaborate with team members to understand source system structures and data retrieval methods/techniques, and tools within the organization.
  • Lead the development of data transformation logic using ETL tools or scripting languages like SQL, Bash, Python, etc.
  • Clean, validate, and transform data to conform to target schema and quality standards.
  • Work with the team to execute data quality improvement plans.
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities to maintain data integrity and process efficiency.

Here are the important qualifications we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience working for an organization performing ETL Development activities with large volumes of data, including PII/PHI data.
  • Expertise with ETL tools such as IBM DataStage or Qlik Talend with more than 10 years’ experience using these tools in a senior design and architect role.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows systems.
  • 10+ years’ experience with Snowflake, PostGreSQL, and SQL Server database technologies.
  • 10+ years’ experience working in cloud computing environments such as Microsoft DevOps / Azure.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote, hybrid, or in-person work environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SDLC models.
  • 10+ years’ experience understanding HIPAA policies and working with PII and PHI sensitive data.
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively on an IT team with diverse skillsets.
  • Effective at managing competing priorities and can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written, along with excellent documentation skills.
  • Ability to stay well organized, detailed and process oriented when under pressure to meet development deadlines.

Hourly rate range: $90.00 - $100.00 per hour.
