Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead projects, initiatives, and efforts to streamline development activities.
  2. Lead and prioritize tasks optimally to meet deadlines.
  3. Design, develop, and test secure high-quality software solutions.
  4. Champion a culture of innovation and excellence within the engineering team.
  5. Provide technical leadership and direction for complex software projects.
  6. Implement software improvements and resolve defects or issues.
  7. Perform code reviews to ensure alignment with established guidelines.
  8. Identify bottlenecks and bugs within the software, devising effective solutions to address them.
  9. Actively participate in the full software development lifecycle, from planning to deployment.
  10. Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and frameworks and share learning by hosting training sessions.
  11. Be available to address operational issues as they arise.
  12. Mentor and guide junior engineers.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
  14. Occasional travel to Danvers, Massachusetts - Abiomed headquarters - or other affiliated sites as required.

Qualifications:

Education:

  1. A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in software engineering.
  2. Master's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  1. Proven experience in software development, including designing and implementing complex systems.
  2. Expertise in programming languages such as, but not limited to, C#, Python, TypeScript, Java, and C++.
  3. Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, secure coding practices, algorithms, and data structures.
  4. Experience with Agile methodologies and working in a collaborative team environment.
  5. Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  6. Experience working with source control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps).
  7. Familiarity with cloud service providers (Azure, AWS, GCP) and cloud-native development.
  8. Author automated solutions to support software products within a regulated environment.
  9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  11. Knowledge of database management systems (SQL and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

Preferred:

  1. Experience in the medical device industry or other regulated environments.
  2. Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
  3. Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  4. Experience in developing microservices architectures.
  5. Proficiency in front-end technologies such as React or Angular.
  6. Experience with data analytics and machine learning.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $113,000 - $195,500.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  5. Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year.
  6. Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year.
  7. Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year.
  8. Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
