Automation Engineer


Reports to the Head of Engineering

The primary function and duty of this position is to provide technical solutions to customer requests for our equipment. Support for our equipment via telephone, email or remote assistance. Would also require travel to customer sites and continue troubleshooting on site. An additional function of this position is to implement prepared customer requests at customer site which require advanced skills (ex. programming skills).


Duties and Tasks:

  • Apply knowledge of electrical engineering principles to design, operate, and maintain products and systems.
  • Investigate equipment failures/difficulties to diagnose problems and make recommendations for resolution.
  • Provide feedback to design engineers on customer problems and needs.
  • Research, test and analyze the operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Estimate costs/submit bids for engineering, assembly, addition or extraction projects, and prepare contract.
  • Write training documents for customers or company internal use.
  • Apply engineering principles to emerging fields such as robotics, and biomedical.
  • Creation of PLC code for Rockwell PLC, HMI and motion system according to internal programming guidelines
  • Parameterization of all electrical devices, sensors, bus systems
  • Setup of PLC program, motion system and HMI
  • Startup of the pharmaceutical/cosmetic packaging machinery in close cooperation with mechanical team members
  • Documentation of programmed function, procedures and processes
  • Clarification and implementation of system connections (e.g. SCADA, PDA, signal exchange with external systems) if required also externally at the customer's site
  • Supervision of internal machine test runs incl. FAT at groninger site until SAT at customer site (set up formats, prepare / execute test runs)
  • Preparation of change notes for the customer in case of subsequent software or hardware changes
  • Support company strategy and values


Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree plus 5 years work experience or equivalent experience
  • Strong AB programming skills (Ladder logic, Structured Text (ST), VBA, …)
  • Knowledge in Rockwell motion technologies (Configuration, Caming, …)
  • Knowledge of Pack ML programming principles.
  • Knowledge of robotic and vision system technologies
  • Knowledge of German and German standards a plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%
