We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our growing Restaurant Operations Features team. You will play a key role in developing and enhancing our Inventory, Recipes, and Enterprise reporting features, empowering restaurant owners to gain deeper insights and streamline their operations. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and success of thousands of restaurants across the US and Canada.
MarginEdge is a SaaS platform that serves independent restaurants with a focus on simplifying complex operations and delivering actionable insights. Our system is cloud-hosted on AWS, with services developed using Java/Spring Boot and front-end technologies like React and AngularJS. Our data architecture leverages both NoSQL (DynamoDB) and relational (Postgres) databases to handle the vast amount of data generated by our platform.
Today, MarginEdge is used by more than 9,000 restaurants, providing our customers with insights into their $13 billion in purchases. Join our well-funded startup and make a tangible impact in the restaurant industry by building products that our customers love and rely on.
MarginEdge: Where hospitality meets technology
As a team built by former (and current!) restaurant operators, our mission is to bring operators the same energy, attention to detail, and passion that they bring to their guests. Our culture is deeply rooted in service, partially because that’s where so many of our team come from (including everyone on our Business Development team), but also because we believe it is just the right way to run a business. We design our software with profound empathy for the complexity of running a restaurant, and the goal of making the magic just a little easier for operators by taking the complex (read: very annoying) back office tasks off their plate, while empowering them with real-time data.
Our founders share a deep history in both owning and operating restaurants and in building successful tech companies. We are venture-backed and serve 7,000+ restaurants across the US and Canada.
We enable restaurants to make magic while knowing we are doing the same for them.
We have the utmost respect for our clients and because of this, we are unable to hire their current employees.
What type of responsibilities will I have?
- Scale our restaurant management features with cloud technologies to meet our growth needs for years.
- Collaborate with Product and Design to plan, scope, and improve our product.
- Develop back-end services and intuitive front-end interfaces for high volume features.
- Mentor a team of engineers on best practices for developing systems.
- Perform code reviews and apply feedback to improve security, scalability, and reliability.
- Identify security risks in code and design secure solutions.
- Lead architectural and solution design discussions, ensuring our infrastructure is performant, fault-tolerant, and maintainable.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to resolve critical issues.
- Dive into customer problems to deliver an excellent experience.
- Experiment with new technologies and teach your peers how to use them in their work.
What qualifications or skills are required?
- Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Candidates in this role typically have 5-10 years of related experience in software development.
- A proactive approach to seek out new tasks and solve problems before asking for help.
- Empathy for the customer experience and desire to influence product direction.
- Production experience with AWS infrastructure.
- Knowledge of load testing, debugging, CI/CD, and related disciplines.
- A customer-focused mindset and passion for restaurant technology.
- Masters in computer science preferred.
What’s it like to work for MarginEdge?
Imagine the fun of a great restaurant - surrounded by a team of people (including some that you help to manage!) who care about hospitality, care about quality, and care about each other - then subtract the long nights, weekends, drunk customers at the bar...et voila, MarginEdge!
We work hard, we work fast and we fuel our work with a commitment of transparency from leadership, straight talk and trust between teams. We believe that the best people do their best work when they feel empowered - so whether you are remote or in our office (likely eating a catered lunch from our clients in our baller, brand new penthouse HQ in Ballston) you get to work with your manager to call your shot on what works best for you. Did we mention it has a full commercial kitchen and is walking distance (covered walking, that is) from the metro?
