JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

IT Engineer

Department of Public Health

Number of Positions: 1

Starting Salary: $107,712 - $116,640

As a key member of the CDPH Bureau of Informatics and Information Technology, the IT Engineer (Cloud) role serves as the technical expert in the design, implementation, security, optimization, and maintenance of the department's cloud-based servers and systems. The IT Engineer (Cloud) will conduct, analyze, recommend, and present performance and/or capacity analysis to assure systems reliability for current and future use. Other responsibilities may include assisting in the evaluation of cloud services and applications for purchasing decisions, testing, implementing proprietary and open-source code, and architecting development environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Functions as a technical expert in the design, implementation and maintenance of cloud-based servers and systems; performs related duties as required.
  2. Manages, designs, plans, and monitors cloud-based solutions and services.
  3. Gathers business and technical requirements to understand processes and determines project feasibility, deliverables, scope, timeline, reporting, and impact of moving internal applications or servers to the cloud.
  4. Reviews existing systems and new technologies to assess how they will integrate within the overall architecture framework.
  5. Develops and maintains documentation of procedures, standards, and technical requirements related to area(s) of development.
  6. Serves as a technical advisor in the evaluation and procurement of cloud services and applications.
  7. Designs solutions for infrastructure architecture to establish a secure online environment.
  8. Enhances user experience with scalable solutions to ensure information is accessible, reliable and responsive to user demands.
  9. Creates and implements a recovery plan to prevent data loss.
  10. Ensures continuous integration and continuous delivery between development and operations.
  11. Works with other stakeholders (i.e., programmers, application support, consultants, etc.) to understand potential issues and maintenance of cloud environment.
  12. Maintains cloud environment/applications/systems by performing account setup and modifications.
  13. Stays abreast of current events and activities and participates in seminars, webinars, and other activities for professional development purposes.
  14. Represents the department at various meetings and conferences and assists with special analytics projects as requested.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree, plus three (3) years of experience architecting and developing software for scalable, distributed systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications

Preference may be given to applicants who hold applicable professional licenses or certifications relative to the specific responsibilities of the position.

Other Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of:

  1. Applicable computer software packages.
  2. Cloud computing platforms such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud.
  3. Service models such as SaaS, IaaS, PaaS.
  4. IT architecture and design methodologies.
  5. IT concepts, principles, methods, and practices in the assigned specialty area.
  6. Requirement analysis principles and methods.
  7. Systems testing and evaluation principles, methods, and tools.
  8. Methods, practices, and procedures for analyzing and resolving computer-related problems.
  9. Methods and techniques of analysis and design.
  10. New and emerging information technologies and/or industry trends.

Moderate knowledge of:

  1. Technical documentation methods and procedures.
  2. Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  3. Programming or scripting languages such as Java, Ruby, Python.
  4. Microsoft Office application suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word.

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Work Location: DePaul Center, 333 State St. Lower Level, Chicago, IL

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
