The Cloud Hardware Analytics & Tools (CHAT) Team within SCHIE develops advanced analytical and tooling solutions to support and improve the quality of Microsoft Azure. We collect and analyze data across the full Azure stack, HW & SW components, Silicon development processes, and much more. CHAT Data Science, a branch of CHAT, provides data science support, machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions, and advanced visualizations to cloud engineering and management partners.
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to support our custom data analytics and visualizations platform. This high-impact role focuses on the pillars of data engineering of compliance, data management and transformation as well as modeling, and will have direct contributions to Azure-level projects, including working with highly visible platforms through data-driven approaches. This role closely collaborates with BI and Data Science, Software Engineers, other Data Engineers, Program Managers, and HW Engineering teams.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ year(s) experience in business analytics, data science, software development, or data engineering work
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years experience in data modeling, data engineering
- 4+ years development experience and design skills.
- Experience with technical deep dives into service design, operating systems, networking and storage.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Desired coding languages include SQL, Apache Spark, Python, and C#.
- Firm sense of accountability and ownership for end-to-end project lifecycle.
- Knowledge and working experience in data mining, statistics, mathematics is a plus.
Data Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

- Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines within Azure offerings to support business analytics needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical designs and solutions.
- Develop and maintain data integration processes, ensuring data quality, reliability, and scalability.
- Perform data modeling and schema design to support analytics and reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain documentation for data engineering processes, including data lineage, data dictionaries, and data governance policies.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and best practices in data engineering, Azure services, and cloud-based analytics.
- Conduct performance tuning and optimization of data processing and storage systems to improve overall efficiency and scalability.
