Job Title: Senior Software Engineer

General Function

A proficient, independent contributor that assists in technical design, development, implementation, and support of applications; beginning to invest in less-experienced engineers.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Embodies foundational organization and industry engineering principles and core competencies; instills core values in less experienced team members; actively executing on opportunities to improve.
  • Delivers large well-defined tasks and solves moderate not-well-defined problems. Contributes to discovery with some assistance from more experienced engineers. Actively identifies problems to solve. Confidently owns the implementation of the solution.
  • Understands team's product, domain, and vision and how it fits into the overall business. Has a basic understanding of adjacent teams's products, domain, and vision. Starts participating in roadmap feedback with the product team. Looks for opportunities to simplify product & technical design.
  • Embodies practices and processes and actively discusses improvements with the team.
  • Fearlessly enters areas of ambiguity and unfamiliarity, assisted by more experienced engineers when needed. Begins to tackle more ambiguous problems with the help of more senior engineers.
  • Manages risk by unblocking themselves and others and escalating if they cannot overcome in a timely manner. Can spot potential problems and advocate for priority before they become problems. Evaluates possible solutions by factoring in implications of each option.
  • Can easily identify tech debt, make recommendations on how to remedy, and elevate to the right people to create a plan and prioritize.
  • Help identify and establish metrics to proactively monitor overall product health and provide recommendations to improve. Sometimes assists and contributes to resolving production issues.

Experience And Education

Bachelor degree preferred, or relevant experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.
  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: operating a computer, occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 10 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: meeting with customers, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

The duties for this position are performed in a general or remote office setting. There is weekly pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a day.
