Job Description

Our Software Infrastructure group is looking for a DBA (Technologist) to join our Development and Deployment team. As a part of this team, you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of cloud native technologies at Expeditors.

As a DBA, you will be involved in designing, implementing, and maintaining our database systems, ensuring their efficiency, integrity, and security. DBAs work with system architects, developers, and other resources to provide consistent data across all applications in support of business objectives. DBAs should be familiar with industry best practices and have a proactive approach to identifying and resolving database-related issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure recoverability of data through the design, implementation, and practice of defined database disaster recovery strategies.
  • Ensure availability of data through the design, implementation, and practice of database high availability strategies.
  • Establish and maintain the quality of data throughout the organization to support business goals.
  • Monitor database performance to identify database configuration, hardware, and SQL query tuning opportunities.
  • Ensure database security by implementing access controls, user authentication, and data encryption.
  • Monitor database resource usage and recommend hardware/software changes as needed.
  • Monitor database utilities to ensure maintenance policies are being achieved.
  • Provide documentation for database design and modifications.
  • Document established DBA-driven processes, workflows, and tasks.
  • Adhere to all applicable team and department standards governing workplace performance.
  • Stay updated with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices.
  • Active participation in the Expeditors Database Administrator Community of Practice.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6+ years Database administration experience.
  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server , and IBM DB2 databases.
  • Knowledge of Mongo DB and Microsoft SQL Server is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with relational database management systems and their core concepts.
  • Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Experience with Red Hat and Microsoft Windows environments.
  • Scripting experience with bash, sh, and/or Python.
  • Experience with database clustering technologies (VCS).
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and high availability solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server relational database management systems and concepts.
  • Experience with any one of the DBs like PostgreSQL, SQL Server, DB2, and Mongo DB.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly.
  • Able to formulate and implement a design strategy from a mix of business requirements, concept documents, and verbal descriptions.
  • Proficient working with Ansible.
  • Experience in conducting or participating in audits.
  • Familiar with SAFe methodologies.
