Job Description Summary

The Lead Controls Engineer will report directly to the Facilities Engineering Manager in a new chemical manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama. This role is critical to driving business needs across the site, managing complex issues within functional areas of expertise, and will be heavily involved in identifying critical needs and the creation, implementation, and execution of key projects/solutions in a PSM-covered facility.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Modify various control platforms (PLC, HMI, Alarm Management and DCS) on the site as required

  • Support Engineers and maintenance in troubleshooting and commissioning of new equipment

  • Leads and supports Root Cause Failure Analysis and execute corrective actions for complex and/or repetitive problems

  • Aid in development of KPIs of strategic areas to help focus site resources.

  • Provides troubleshooting support and recommendations to operating units on equipment repair/ reliability including emergency work reviews

  • Provides input into the maintenance budget, specifically to identify Infrastructure and Non-Routine spending requirements

  • Supports PHA and FMEA as Controls SME and develops recommended solutions

  • Provides input on project packages for feasibility, reliability, and maintainability prior to construction release

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of controls engineering experience)

  • Minimum of 3 years of controls engineering experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM)

  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with various types of instrumentation and electrical systems, equipment, and software.

  • Experience with any of the following platforms: Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, GE RX3i, GE MarkVIe, Cimplicty HMI

  • Experience in chemical/petrochemical instrumentation and electrical maintenance
