PURPOSEThe Smart Grid Project Engineer will provide engineering, technical, and project leadership for EPB’s electric system. This includes engineering analysis such as reliability analysis, capacity/contingency analysis, system protection studies, and engineering studies of equipment loading, voltage and automation equipment. This position will also include designing and delivering improvements that are part of EPB’s electric system of the future, such as distributed energy resources (battery storage, solar, etc.) and electrification projects. The position is focused on improving processes, efficiencies, effectiveness, reliability, resiliency, and customer satisfaction.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIESUtilize engineering training and analysis tools to evaluate the performance of the electric system and develop plans and strategies for improving reliability, reducing costs, and improving customer service.Develop plans to maximize the investment EPB has made into Smart Grid infrastructure to improve operations. This includes analysis of automation technology and distributed energy resources.Develop and maintain EPB’s corporate resiliency plan based on detailed engineering analysis and contingency planning so that we are prepared to respond to a variety of possible external impacts to the power system.Perform data analysis to understand and improve electric system operations; utilize current technology to perform data retrieval/transformation, database development, and report writing; develop methods to identify trends, patterns, and relationships in electric system data.Prepare data analysis that can be communicated to customers inquiring about the quality of their service.Manage projects by coordinating internal and external resources to complete DER projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.Develop and refine processes to improve efficiencies, effectiveness, reliability, power quality and customer satisfaction.Develop metrics to ensure that improvements identified are measurable.Work independently and with teams based on project needs. Work as team member and/or team leader as applicable.Research new technology for utility industry and make recommendations to Electric System leadership. Monitor and evaluate customer needs, requests, and complaints.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor of Science in Engineering degree in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.7+ years of experience or training in a related field.Proficient in Microsoft Office skills at the intermediate level, data systems, and have a working knowledge of computer systems and software.Proficient in database analysis and reporting tools helpful in retrieving and analyzing large amounts of data to reach conclusions and develop improvement plans.Demonstrated ability to lead projects to completion on time and within budget.A background in electric utility operations and technology is preferred.Some experience with electric utility software applications for analyzing distribution systems is also preferred.CERTIFICATION(s) & OTHER REQUIREMENTSPossess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles.
