Key Objectives for this Role
Terrasmart has four primary lines of business: feasibility software, ground mount racking/install, canopy racking/install and electrical balance of system (“eBOS”). The VP Engineering ensures that we grow our position as the U.S. solar leader and, in that regard, delivers a more powerful future for this country’s renewable energy. This VP role will make the following major contributions:
- Oversee all product development efforts:
- Support and coach our PD Leader to work to improve our current product initiatives.
- Ensure Terrasmart development teams balance outcomes related to safety, speed, cost and quality.
- Oversee NPD & PI processes: Support in the review, standardize and synchronize PD workflows across Terrasmart including hardware and software (note: we expect software to follow progressive, agile practices that are similar but different versus hardware development; key is to make sure that software and hardware are integrated where they need to be for best customer experience).
- Help drive key, new-to-the-business programs along with our PD Leader, where major sales growth is planned in the next 3-5 years. Focus on our Tracker and eBOS product lines.
- Lead Project Engineering Teams:
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve effectiveness in all workflows and service levels.
- Strategic leadership in key engineering disciplines, including structural and mechanical fields.
- Leadership in workflow / inter-departmental interactions, ensuring high levels of service and accuracy.
- Cross-functional leadership, interacting with Terrasmart's delivery centers, driving to create and deploy best-in-class solutions & strategies.
- Scope includes all Ground Mount and Canopy Project Engineering teams along with Product Development and Codes and Standards.
- Build the Best Engineering team in the industry. This will be done by building on the important resources we have on our team today, pulling them into a common organization, refining individual/team focus and priorities, developing key talent and attracting new team members in all disciplines of Engineering including project, software, hardware engineering and controls.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Experience (an equivalent combination of education and/or experience)
- Fifteen or more years’ experience in managing an organization that covers hardware product development, software (firmware/cloud) development and project engineering.
- Personal experience with solar tracker technology and hardware-software dependent platforms are a major plus.
- Documented success in driving major, new-to-the-business programs.
- Documented success in creating a high-performance culture aligned around priorities, driven by empowered engineers who are held accountable to commitments.
- Able to travel to visit and work with dispersed teams and visit customers on an as-needed basis with an average travel expectation of ~30%.
Work Conditions
We follow a flexible work-in-office/work-remote hybrid approach for all roles where it fits the requirements, including this role. Some teams will follow a cadence of coordinated, periodic team days in the office. Also, there are one-off occasions where work-in-office is required. These decisions are made at the Platform Leaders’ (or in this case, the President’s) discretion. We will continue to offer work-in-office/work-remote flexibility into the future, regardless of pandemic conditions.
We expect this VP to reside within a normal-daily-driving-commute distance from Cincinnati, Ohio or Fort Myers, Florida for ongoing, frequent interaction with, and coaching of, many of our development engineers.
