Amazon Software Development Engineers should be passionate about creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity moving at the pace of a company where development cycles are typically weeks, not years. SDEs are found throughout most organizations within Amazon. This means you would work anywhere from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Alexa to the technology teams that support the World-Wide Operations Network.

Under the supervision of senior developers, you’ll get to learn, grow, and work as a team to:

  1. Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to design and bring innovative products and services to market.
  2. Design and build innovative technologies in distributed computing environments in partnership with senior developers.
  3. Create solutions to run predictions on distributed systems with exposure to innovative technologies.
  4. Support with building distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use.
  5. Design and code the right solutions starting with broadly defined problems.
  6. Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software.

Basic Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Completed or on track to complete an Amazon Technical Academy approved training program
  3. Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Proficiency with Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  2. Experience developing on Unix/Linux
  3. Knowledge of professional software engineering practices
  4. Strong focus on clean code and robust design
  5. Strong problem solving, debugging and troubleshooting skills.
