Job Summary
Defines and leads efforts supporting manufacturing operations as it relates to Manufacturing Engineering Provides leadership to a team of technical and skilled professionals to ensure they are engaged in the daily needs of the operations while supporting and applying Lean Manufacturing principles through Continuous Improvement activities to achieve Operational Excellence. Set daily management targets/ goals, measure actual performance. Key leadership role within Midland staff
Major Responsibilities/Activities
• Leads the Mfg engineering team for Midland Skokie site
• Prepare economic justification for capital equipment procurement and installation.
• Assume or assign the Project Leader position during installation of approved capital equipment and other capital/improvement projects as approved.
• Prepare plant layouts and determine process flow.
• Investigate and implement new technology within business for cost savings and capacity improvement (CNC machines, automation, software technology)
• Develop and improve manufacturing processes for assembly and fabrication.
• Determine and provide the infrastructure needed to achieve conformity to product requirements.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.
• Leads manufacturing design support R&D for manufacturability and cost reduction.
• Assume or assign the Project Leader position during the manufacturing preparation stage.
• Leads transition of new products from R&D to production.
• Leads the design and coordinate the completed of Assembly fixtures.
• Develop and oversee manufacturing routing instructions and approve release of same to manufacturing.
• Establish testing procedures and quality checks for production equipment.
• Coordinate with the Design Engineering Department for smooth transitions of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), effectively communicate these changes to the impacted departments.
• Leads and enforce all safety rules and PPE requirements applicable to the area.
• Leads and ensures all facility areas maintain a neat and clean work environment.
• Promote the principles of Lean Manufacturing to achieve Operational Excellence (ODover)
• Attend and participate in various production and facility related meetings as required as a member of facility leadership team.
• Solicit and manage external third-party vendors related to the installation, repair, upkeep and similar for machinery, equipment and the facility.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
• Leads the daily activities of the Manufacturing Engineers, Manufacturing Technicians, etc.
• Responsible for reviewing performance, salary administration, coaching and development.
• Leads determining departmental staffing needs, assist in recruiting and placement of team members as needed.
• Establish standards and ensure compliance to safety and environmental compliance from team members.
• Leads defining roles and responsibilities within the area and effectively delegate work with his/ her team
Education Requirements
• A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Operations mgmt. is required. MS or MBA is a plus.
• 7+ years leading teams hitting operational performance improvement metrics
Experience Requirements
• Computer proficiency in a Windows environment is required, preferably with Office 365 applications is required.
• Prior experience using manufacturing software.
• Well versed in CNC machine selection, tooling technology, automation with robots, industrial robots, work holding, asm methods
• Understanding of manufacturing processes associated with the production of engineered products is required.
• Knowledge and application of ISO standards/ AAR standards in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Experience with implementing and driving Lean Manufacturing principles is preferred.
• Must possess strong working knowledge of manufacturing materials and construction technologies.
• Knowledge of OSHA and environmental standards is preferred.
• Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of general manufacturing and maintenance methods is required.
• Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Prior supervisory experience is preferred
• Effective leadership skills are required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Quality Responsibilities:
• Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to product, process and quality systems.
• Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system.
• Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
• Verify the implementation of solutions.
• Control further processing, delivery or installation of non-conforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
Physical Demands:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to normal office conditions like telephone, personal computer, reports and files. The employee will also be exposed to normal conditions of a manufacturing facility. The employee will be required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods of time
