About our group:

The continued advancement of Hard Disc Drive technology to enable data storage is critically dependent on the advancement of recording head technology. Our team is responsible for the development of thin film wafer processes in the nanometer length scale, enabled through the application of new materials, new tooling and novel process flows to enable new generations of Hard Disc Drive products, scalable to production volumes of millions of units per day. This exciting technology development is a critical part of Seagate global team in the delivery of new Hard Disc Drive products.

About the role - you will:

  • Lead an established team of highly motivated management, engineering professionals and technicians responsible for wafer process technology development to enable Seagate’s Hard Disc Drive product roadmap.
  • Define Wafer Process roadmap requirements, aligning with delivery of HDD roadmap.
  • Develop wafer processes in the nanometer length scale through the application of new materials, new tooling and novel wafer process flows to enable next generation products and roadmap requirements.
  • Partner with Design team to build and mature new generations of magnetic transducer prototypes at nanometer length scale.
  • Partner with Wafer Factory teams to mature, yield and transition technology to operations and successfully ramp new generations of magnetic transducers to volume of millions of devices per day.
  • Collaborate with Semiconductor (and other specialist) equipment suppliers to enable tooling for dimensional control, critical feature alignment and materials capability to enable Seagate roadmap.
  • Work on Definition of Business Processes to maximize efficiencies for Wafer build during development and volume phases.
  • Be responsible for alignment of wafer process development spend to financial budget for both operating expenses and capital expenditure.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all staff.

About you:

  • You are a self-motivated leader, with strength in technical detail.
  • You have both a strong technology background combined with managerial experience.
  • You have experience in technology readiness / maturity lifecycles and deployment of new technology to product qualification.
  • You are a team player capable of working across many business disciplines including technical, operational, financial, Human resources, and other functions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering teams, director level peers, business partners and executive management.
  • You can balance day-to-day activities, tactical execution with a vision for strategic direction for the team.
  • You have a track record of innovation driving positive technical and business change and optimization.
  • You have demonstrated Business Acumen driving successful technology and business outcomes contributing to the success of the organization.
  • Ability to interact with global teams internally within Seagate, and externally with key technology equipment providers.
  • You have impeccable trustworthiness and integrity.

Your experience includes:

  • Strong hands-on experience in technology development and managerial experience leading team of technical engineers or scientists. Preferred technology experience in thin film wafer process development.
  • Demonstrated working successfully as part of diverse, global team.

You might also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e., Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, or Information Technology) and 15+ years of experience. A post graduate degree (i.e., Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, or Information Technology) is preferred or equivalent education and experience.

Location:

Our Normandale campus spans two suburbs, Edina and Bloomington, and serves as the Recording Head development and manufacturing arm of Seagate.
