Responsibilities
This Principal Software Engineer opportunity will allow you to make a broad positive impact that will include building appealing developer experiences, solving complex algorithmic problems, forging real-time troubleshooting tools via complex data models, streamlining our monitoring systems, evolving our metrics to enable large scale performance optimizations, or even enabling intricate business/engineering processes. As the Principal Software Engineer on the Windows Cloud Experiences team, you will be responsible for:

  1. Partnering with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios.
  2. Leading efforts and discussions for the architecture of aspects of products/solutions (e.g., design, cost).
  3. Creating proposals for architecture and design documents and leading testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions.
  4. Leading by example and mentoring others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
  5. Leading efforts to optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  6. Identifying best practices and coding patterns and providing deep expertise in the coding and validation strategy.
  7. Leading efforts for creation and conducting of experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes, monitoring developments for prototyping and testing products, interpreting results, and deciding on next steps or ship decision from results.
  8. Researching, architecting, developing, and delivering solutions in an evolving agile development environment.
  9. Designing and developing large scale distributed software services and solutions.
  10. Adhering to and driving modern software engineering practices through design and code reviews.
  11. System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions.
  12. Developing "best-in-class" engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored, and reusable.
  13. Improving test coverage for services, organizing and implementing integration tests, and resolving problem areas.
  14. Considering testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understanding when code is ready to be shared and delivered.
  15. Gaining a working understanding of Microsoft as a business and collaborating with mentors and leaders in order to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.
  16. Focusing on customer/partner needs through a data driven approach.
  17. Troubleshooting and optimizing automation, reliability, and monitoring for Live Site.
