We are seeking cleared or clearable senior level System Engineers with a background in Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Hardware Design and Testing for a critical role as a key contributor and leader on electronic hardware development teams. Your Essential Duties:

  • Drive the successful technical completion of projects working closely with the customer
  • Develop EO/IR ground-based sensor systems and analyze complex datasets
  • Support the development of new technologies for EO/IR sensors
  • Understand each project mission and model/architect the ground-based EO/IR sensor systems our teams are creating
  • Communicate designs and performance results to customers and stakeholders via presentations and white papers
  • Guide a team of engineers from requirements through design and build, and finally through delivery and deployment
  • Perform analysis of hyperspectral imaging and other advanced remote sensing data as collected from various platforms
  • Generate test/training data through modeling, simulation, and manipulation of collected data
  • Execute R&D efforts on data exploitation and validation from EO/IR sensors
  • Develop signal and image processing algorithms for remote sensor data processing and exploitation
  • Improve image processing techniques and research & develop methods for characterizing targets based upon observable features and derived metrics
  • Develop and evaluate algorithms to detect and track weak signals
  • Present contributions and lessons learned to teammates through Agile Scrum Methodology

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, science or related discipline and 9 years' relevant experience or Masters' in Electrical Engineering, science or related discipline and 7 years' relevant experience or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, science or related discipline and 4 years' relevant experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • Design, build, integration, or test of electro-optic systems including test equipment & measurement techniques.
  • Systems Engineering for EO/IR Targeting Systems, EO/IR products, or Datalink Systems and products
  • Systems Architecture of complex sensor or communications systems, from circuit card to fully integrated system of systems
  • Systems Engineering experience across the entire lifecycle of product development including proposals, concept design, detailed design, integration, verification, qualification and validation
  • Requirements derivation & flow down
  • Team Leadership in a Design or Test Environment
  • US Citizenship is required
  • An active Top Secret Clearance

Typical Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics
  • Experience with optical telescopes, photography, and imaging sensors
  • Experience working on EO/IR, laser, or related complex electronic systems development projects
  • Experience with the challenges in designing hardware systems to survive in harsh environments including terrestrial, airborne, and space
  • Experience in SWAP design challenges
  • Systems integration testing
  • Verification and Validation
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE, SysML)
  • Specific skills within the domains of active EO/IR, passive EO/IR, or Electronic Warfare (EW)

Salary Range: $121,000 - $181,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
